The last couple days my girls don't want to eat, they're having way to much fun playing. Every meal they eat a few bits and start whining to get down and play. Is this a normal stage toddlers go through?

Although I don't know from personal experience, but my cousins little boy went through the same thing and still is actually. He eats on the go. He will stop and pick up and bite and run and play.

My two do this at times. They don't want to sit and eat. They play and come get a bite every few minutes. I'm hoping this is a phase because it takes twice as long for them to eat.

Mine have been very into playing at the table lately. If they are really hungry, they eat well. Otherwise, they eat a little then play (switching sippies, swtiching plates, etc.) I just figure they aren't too terribly hungry, end the meal, and wash their hands and faces so they can go play elsewhere.

My boys are about the same age as your girls and the last pedi. appt. the dr. told us to expect that they will not want to eat as much as they had in the past. It might be one good meal. We have not experienced it yet but I am waiting...

That's comforting to know. DD still eats pretty good, but DS has started getting so picky here lately. I worry that he sin't eating enough!!

Thank you everyone! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only going through this, and that it seems to be normal. I do wish I had my good eaters back, though. Maybe it'll pass soon. :)

If they seem pretty happy otherwise, then yeah, it's normal. Mine usually eat a lot at breakfast, which keeps me from worrying about the fact that they barely eat the rest of the day. We're lucky if lunch or dinner lasts 10 minutes before they want to get down.

Our pedi also said that they aren't growing as much now so their appetites will lessen. My DD ate SOOO little the last few days, then scarfed food last night and today. I figure if she's hungry, she'll eat.

We have moments of this. When we have a bad meal I don't worry, but I will usually stage some snacks (cheese, fruit, crackers/dry cereal) on the coffee table for them to graze on (works every time).

I put the snacks out in a little muffin tin. They enjoy sorting the pieces around and then munching on them.

My friend's dd is like this. She eats lots of small meals all throughout the day. She is a very VERY energetic/active little girl and just seems way to excited and busy to play rather than eat (at least when she comes to my house). My friend said she's always like that. It's like she doesn't have the patience to sit there and eat. She'd rather be running around and playing.

mine are getting like this too Trish - its almost to the point where they actually eat better when they're running around...tonight (because DD was feeling so much better and daddy wasn't home yet) I let them walk around while feeding them a pb&j for dinner - honest to god they ate every last bite (and usually I'm lucky if I can get a half into them)...it was only slightly messier with the jar of mixed veggies in them but they were having such a good time I ran with it!

    Totally normal.

The only way I can get mine to eat a whole meal is to let them eat and play.

Thank you ladies SOOOO much! I've never had any eating issues with the girls until now. It's a weight of my shoulder knowing this is a normal stage. I may have to try the eating on the run and see how they do. :) Thank you all for the suggestions.
