So, I'm 25 weeks pregnant and today I went in for another growth scan. Baby A measured 1lb 5 oz, which was in the 27 percentile for growth, Baby B measured 1 lb 12 oz which is up in the 55 percentile for growth. They don't like to see such a large discordance, so they checked their fluid levels and their cord dopplers (?) and said everything else looked fine.

When the specialist came in to talk to me, he was explaining that one could have had a growth spurt while the other did not or that given the fact that they were diamniotic dichorionic, they could just be different. That's all well and good, but up until now, they have told me that they were monochorionic, diamniotic. When I mentioned this to him, he said that at 14 weeks it looked like they were monochorionic, but then at 18 weeks they described diamniotic. No one had mentioned this to me. He called the sonographer back in to take a look and see.

He explained that if they are mono/di, I need to come in every 2 weeks to measure their fluid levels and every 4 weeks for a growth scan. Well, the tech came back took a look and started typing. Then she said I was done and could leave. I was still kind of stunned, so I left without asking. The receptionist had me schedule another growth scan four weeks out.....

Now I am kicking myself for leaving. I called my OB's office and left a message, so hopefully they get back to me soon, but I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow. 4 weeks seems like an awful long time.

Send good thoughts my way. This is the first time this pregnancy that I've felt so worried.

Oh, WOW I am so sorry. We are going through size differnce issues too..

If they don't know, you need the more intense monitoring. Earlier ultrasounds are more accurate. Was the specialist a perinatologist, MFM, or? Does he think they are mono/di or di/di?

This almost happened to us- at nuch. scan the lady told us di/di... (she was also not that educated, she said two yolks meant di/di- she was wrong, this just meant not momo) but we had ultrasounds from week 8 which showed they were definitelhy mono/di. Our membrane is on the thick side, but our perinatologist said looking at the early ultrasound said ours are definitely mono/di. If we didn't have that early ultrasound, they would be treating out pregnancy as a di/di/

If they are not 100% sure and can't tell you why either scan was wrong, I would urge you to insist they treat your preganancy as a mono/di. It is always better to be safe than sorry! I am so sorry about today, and I hope they treat your pregnancy more seriously and give you some solid answers.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

Since there is a chance they are mono/di, you should call the u/s office back and tell them you forgot to get an appt. for a TTTS scan in two weeks. You need to be seen at that time.

Well, I spoke to my Dr. office and they even though they hadn't seen the ultrasound pics yet, they felt confident with the MFM's explanations and not to worry. He said that it did look like they were di/di on my 18 week ultrasound and that one was more detailed than the initiial 14 week one that made them think they were mono/di. He also said that they would check fluid on the babies every two weeks just in case they were mono/di.

The good news is that fluid was virtually the same for both and cord dopplers looked good for both. Did any of you have a weight difference at one point that evened out over time?? They think that one baby probably just had a growth spurt and the other one hasn't yet.
