DS's feet are past the end of the infant seat. Not too bad, but bad enough that in the stroller, he has to be in the seat closet to me/handle. DD is in front since she's not as long. So, is it time to transition to the convertible seats?

If so, DH is concerned about how I'll be able to transport two of them alone. I said that I would put them in the stroller. It is an inconvenience, especially if I want to meet people for lunch and have to deal with the stroller and now high chairs.

Who's been there done that and has some suggestions? I LOVE leaving the house and don't want to feel constrained to only go out with DH.

    TIA! [IMG]

Yep sounds like its time to change to the convertible car seats. B grew out of hers a month or two ago so we upgraded her to the convertable. Now when I have to go somewhere I lay B down in the back of the stroller and I have kept M in her infant seat for the next few weeks or so, so I just put her car seat on the front of the stroller. Mine are not sitting up yet (they are preemies) so we have no choice but to take the stroller. Once M gets too big for the infant seat I will just prop her up in the stroller with blankets. Once you get the hang of it, its really not hard to take them out alone (ive been doing appts and such alone since they came home and I have to take along my toddler too). Just make sure that you remember that though they will be in a convertable seat they still have to be rear facing unitl they are a year AND 20 lbs.

Not necessarily. As long as there is 2" of plastic above your baby's head the infant seat is fine. My Erin has extremely long legs but her body is about average so her feet hung way over but the manufacturer's manual says that was fine. It's the weight and where there head comes to in the seat that really matters.

FWIW I still have Annie in an infant seat (18.5 lbs) and Erin is in a Britax Marathon (convertible seat) a little while ago because she hit 20 lbs. There is no such thing as a "quick errand" for us anymore LOL! I'm sure we'll be even slower once Annie is in a Marathon too.

Both mine have feet that hang over but I'm not changing them yet. I like to convience of the infant carriers escpecially inthe cold, winter months. I figure they were squished for 9 months in my womb, they can have squished feet for a few more months!

I transitioned both sometime in the middle or end of the 7th month and they got really good at sitting up really fast!! [IMG]

Thanks for the advice. His head is not close to the top, just the feet at the bottom. It doesn't sound like it will be "fun" when they are out of the infant seats either. [IMG]

I LOVE going out during the day. I hope to get the hang of getting them out of the seats and into the stroller quickly since it's winter here, too. I told DH to be prepared to switch both of them over in the next few weeks. They just turned 8 months old, so in a few weeks it'll just have to be time to grow up!

Side note: DD is WAY too small to sit in restaurant high chairs. She slid all over the place. I think I need to get a cart/chair cover from Target.

It's really not that hard to put them in the stroller and go. Mine were out of the Graco Snugrides by 5 months, they hit the height max, so we went to convertable carseats. At that time, we were in a different house (a townhouse w/ parking spaces in front), so my get out of the house strategy was to get them ready and have them sit in the Bumbo seats right inside the front door. I put them in the car one at a time and brought them back in like that too.
For shopping and restaurants, I used my Duoglider. We didn't go out to eat a whole lot, but they were also not sitting up yet, so we would keep them in the stroller. I didn't use the restaurant high chairs until they were both sitting up well (late 8 months). Yes, taking the stroller everywhere is a PITA, but you get used to it.
In our current house, we have a walkout basement, so I would put them in the stroller in the house and push it out the door to the car. That works really well, and I even do it now sometimes.

There's a length limit for infant seats too. Our infant seats are 22 pounds or 29 inches. My girls are only 17.5 pounds but 28 inches and I think we'll need the convertible car seats by the end of the month.

Transporting them will definitely be more of a pain! But they hate to be trapped in the infant seat in the stroller, so we haven't done that in a while anyways.

As people have said, you don't need to rush to move to the convertible seats. Mine outgrew the height around 7=8 months, but since their heads were still below the top we didn't move them until closer to 11 months. They also didn't hit 20 lbs until about 14-16 months.

For traveling with them without the carseat carriers, you might want to invest in a sling or hipcarrier or some kind of quick carrier. I could carry one in the sling and the other on my hip for short distances like the carport to the apt upstairs. I found that was a lifesaver for me until about 18 months when they got too big to carry comfortably.
