So the last few days, I can NOT lay on my left or right side without my arms (right from the top of my from the shoulder to my fingers) falling asleep with in 10-15 minutes. It is really annoying, and I am waking up a lot to adjust, only to have my arms fall back asleep again, lol. Is this normal or what?? I do have some swelling of my hands, and my feet have just started the swelling thing the last few days also. Not sure if that is related or not.

    Thanks

p.s. Things sure start getting interesting comfort wise once you start getting up here in weeks huh!?! Scared what the next 8 weeks has is store for me!

Sounds like the beginnings of pregnancy related carpal tunnel syndrome. Some women get it during pregnancy and it goes away shortly after birth. Others such as myself have had it so bad that surgery to relieve the pressure was needed. My suggestions, try splints, available at your local drugstore, or grocery store with pharmacy, Tylenol for pain, and as always, talk to your docm just in case. But if it is carpal tunnel, it IS normal.

My arms do this from time to time (and I am not pregant) usually a change of position takes care of it.
I would mention it at your next OB appt. incase it is circulation issues. Take care!!

    Hi,

I started feeling my hands were numb in the morning around 27-28 weeks also and I was afraid of pregnancy related carpal tunnel. The one remedy I found that works for me is something I read in a pregnancy book. Just before going to bed, I am doing this excercise: keep the arms up and make a fist and release it with both hands - 30 repeats.
It helps me, I haven't felt my hands numb since I started doing this. I am also doing it in the morning or through the day if I see my hands getting puffy. Also the book said, try to sleep with your hands on a pillow, and slightly elevated, I am doing this as well. I put a pillow between the headboard and my head - so I am sleeping a little lower than usual, below the pillow, and I am resting my hands on that pillow - I hope this makes sense. I hope it helps you also. It's getting even more "FUN" with the discomfort as time progresses, but I hope it won't be too bad for you. It's not horrible for me yet, but I am sure the next few weeks will be more "interesting" :).

I am 28 weeks and have had this mildly for about a month...but now it is getting really bad. So, yeah, not only am I up every 60-90 minutes at night peeing, I am also up readjusting my hands/arms because they are asleep. I will definitely be trying PP's suggestions! I am with ya sista!

i had it as well with the twins and it did eventually go away a few months after having them... it's due to the extreme swelling that cuts off some of the ciruclation. I really noticed it when i was typing on the computer. Bring it up with your doctor
