Zach is doing very well with the potty. Not sure what I am doing is 'right' but it is working most of the time. I put him in undies (tons of handmedowns from my sister THANKS!). And I ask him to go every 2-3 hours if he does not go by himself. I tempt him with a candy. right now all i could find was reeces pieces. He LOVES those. But i want something w/out sugar? Any thoughts? Does this system work eventually? Meaning after a while i will not need to ask him and he will just run to the potty and go most of the time? He does that about once a day right now.

    TIA :D

ETA: Josh is starting to show signs as he tells me he went poo or pee. But does not want to sit on potty at all but wants diaper on NOW. ;)

Does he like stickers or stamps?

thats a great idea but we already do stamps and stickers all the time. so it would not be a special thing. unless I get ONE special stamp for PT?

Anyone else? I searched several stores for some sugarless candy and all of it was hard candy which is not safe for my 2 yr old. So I ended up with gummy bears  It worked. Zach only used one diaper yesterday  But of course did his big afternoon poo in his undies  But like I said they were handmedowns from my sister so it was easy to cut them off and toss them in the trash :D

    TIA

I had a sticker chart for Catherine. She LOVES stickers. I let her pick the stickers at Target. Maybe yogurt covered raisins would be a good treat?

We do stickers and ocassional candy. The funny thing is though after a couple of days they barely asked for their "treats."

Have you seen those honey sticks? Those are pretty yummy & would be better than regular sugar. Otherwise, I'd go to the health food section & they usually have some kind of treats.

    Hi ,

We do the same "bribing" method with our daughter with complete success! She now is potty trained and doesn't even ask for her prize anymore. (2.5 yrs old :) We used any kind of dried fruit especially raisins or craisins and called them DOTS, She loved them everytime and now doesn't even ask them. Also i combined this with a potty poster! I Drew a picture of her in the bathroom with a potty and toilet paper and sat down and explain everything about going to the potty drawing all the while. She loves this! I then put boxes and said I would draw a heart or star each time she did well. She loved this even more. then at the end I drew a big fish bowl and said she could pick out a fish pet if she filled in all the boxes! She was so happy. this worked so well and she has been trained ever since.

WOW!! Some great ideas!! (I think a tiny bit of sugar is probably going to be ok, but they'll do fine with something else too probably!) GOOD LUCK!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! (because it is work!)

Great question. We've been "bribing" with M&M's (one for pee, three for poo) but I do hope we can move past this. Funny, when they know DH or I are peeing, they are like "You get an M&M!!"

We also use M&Ms but I had a bag of the baking ones and I think they are the same as the mini ones. They get one for pee and two for poop. I don't feel so bad since they are the mini ones. I just have a little jelly jar of them in the bathroom. As my friend said about the bribing, "It would be different if you were bribing them with a full size candy bar every time!"

You could try a new 'crayon' (think sparkley, scented, etc- it will take awhile to have them earn a whole box and they aer fairly cheap) pretty crown or hat to wear when they use the potty only, special seat/movie, dessert, 5 minutes of computer time, special stamp/sticker/bandaid, reward button (the kind that you pin to a shirt), paint a smiley on thier face/arm/ hand (mine LOVE this) with a marker or finger paint, paint a fingernail each time they go (girls likes this a lot)

My girls loved the colored goldfish...they normally had the regular orange ones, but when they were training, i bought the colored ones, and they just thought that was sooo cool! (don't you wish everyone could be so easily pleased?!?!?! ;) )
