My two are such noisy sleepers! It's not all night, but at certain times they really make a racket. At our last doctor appointment, the Pedi said we don't have to wake them up during the night anymore if they are taking their minimum food intake during the day (he calculated that for us for both girls). They have been eating enough so we have been trying not to wake them at night and they've just started STTN (2 out of the last 3 nights) since we aren't waking them. I worry a little that they are making these noises because they are hungry though. Last night I got up at 3:00 to pump. That's the time they normally wake if they want to eat. They were sleeping quietly. By the time I was done pumping, they were making all kinds of noises, but still seemed to sort of be sleeping. I decided to go back to bed and just listen for a bit to see if they would actually cry to be fed. I eventually fell asleep and didn't hear them again until 5:30 this morning when Karina did cry. So am I starving them if I ignore these sounds or is it o.k. to let them go until they actually cry? What do you think?

    Thanks.

Babies are notoriously noisy sleepers. Mine were for months. We had to get a white noise machine by night 2 if I was going to get any sleep. I dont think you are starving them. At that age they would cry at night if they were starving to let you know. Congrats on getting some sleep. Sound great.

They will let you know if they want food! Let them sleep and get some yourself. Our humidifier covers up some of these night noises, if it didn't I don't think I would ever get any sleep. One or both is always making little noises while asleep.

I agree with a PP that they will definitely let you know if they are hungry. I wouldn't worry about that.

As far as the noisy sleeping thing, my boys were snorting, grunting, farting fools for a long time. I think it is normal.

That's great that you can let them sleep now! If they are hungry they'll let you know. Otherwise I always assume they are dreaming when they make noises. Makes you wonder what babies dream about :)

What kind of noies are they?? One of my baby girls pushes her stomach out all night and makes grunting noises all night.. Are they like that? I am worried that she is in pain like that she is constipated or has gas (they are breastfed though).. any opinions?

I was shocked when I first brought the girls home from the hospital. I had no idea babies were so noisy. I think it they were hungry they'd wake up and really let you know. Congrats on the STTN.. mine didn't until 8 months!!!
