My twins are going to be 1 year old in three weeks. My DD already says a few words but my DS doesn’t say any words yet. He understands me well and only screams when my 3 year old takes something away from him. Is this normal?

Wow, ours share a birthday. Cool!! No words here yet out of either of my boys. Just consonant sounds.

Wow, How cute. Interesting that they share a birthday. Maybe it's a boy thing. Good to know and thanks for replying.

We didn't have words at a year. I have been told that boys are typically slower in talking.

My girls are 14 months. Lauren only says her version of "this" and "that" and Emma says nothing. They babble constantly and try to mimic me but they don't have any concrete words down.

Mine say no definite words yet, either.

Please don't worry. I don't think either one said an actual word until maybe 13-14 months. Then they only said 3-5 words until 18 months. Now they can speak in long sentences.

My best friend's son is 18 months and doesn't have any words yet. Not to worry. Everyone develops at their own rate and boys are often quicker to develop physical skills than language ability.

No worries. My older one barely babbled, and had no words until about 12 months, when she suddenly popped out with, "Uh-oh." And then, not a single other word until after 18 months....we did sign a lot, and she could sign whole sentences, so we knew her receptive language was good. Of course, we worried anyway -- and we shouldn't have, because now, I wish she would stop talking for two minutes!

Mine turn one on the first. DD says Momma and Hi.

    DS says momma.

I have a friend whose little guy didn't talk for a long time. They got him tested and he was fine, he just didn't feel the need to talk yet.

My girls had no words until 25 and 27 months. Then they exploded. Late talking runs in my family, so I didn't worry about it. Only one of my four had any words by 12 months.

Mine only say "daaaaddddeeee" but they babble constantly and seem to "talk" to each other. My pediatrician is not at all concerned. He was talking to them at our last visit and they understood his questions "where's your nose? where's mommy?" he said that twins do sometimes talk later and my oldest talked late, so he said no worries, they are doing just fine...

My girl says "mama" without knowing the exact meaning (she has an idea). My son says very little, lots of noises. My oldest was a little late, but within normal limits (which are according to my ped 4 words by 15 months, 10 words by 18 months and 50 by 2 years) ... my oldest is bilingual and my twins are being exposed to 2 languages as well. That usually tends to slow down at first too.

My twin boys will be three on the 28th of this month and have only started forming "understandable" words in the last 6 months or so. It was a subject I was very sensitive about. We took them to a speech therapist and have been reassured that they are now progressing well and are due for their next assessment. It is difficult not to compare your children to others, seek professional help if you are able to, if only for peace of mind. I also had their hearing retested. Keep positive I found also that reading kept them stimulated. Good luck
