    Hey all,

I just returned from a morning in the lab at the childrens hospital. After our 15 month appt last night, we learned that neither girl has gained any weight since their 9 month appt. I told the ped that they eat like horses and never sit still so he was a bit baffled by this. So he sent us for some tests, he said that he didn't suspect anything was wrong, just wanted to be double sure. He said that since they both are doing the same thing and they don't look or act sick, that he suspects that it is just the way they are. DH was always vedry skinny as a baby and I have a half brother and sister who are both well over 6 feet tall and stick skinny.

Does/did anyone else have something similar going on that turned out to be nothing. He told me not to worry, but I guess I can't help it.

Edited to add: They have been 18 lbs since 9 months. They continue to get taller, just not heavier.

:hug99: Nothing like a doctor to make you worry, huh? I have no experience in this area, so no advice or comparisons for you. But if they are growing taller and are running around fine, they sound good to me. What did they get tested for? Hope it all turns out just fine!

Sorry, Jenn, I don't have any experience with this either, but I'm with Heather, if they seem to act like they feel ok & they are eating & active - probably everything is fine. It's good that the doctor is being cautious though, even though putting them through all those tests couldn't have been fun! :hug99:

No advice or experience, but good luck. I do think your explanation is sound, though. :hug99:

I wouldn't be too concerned if they are eating well. One of mine is pretty skinny and eats well so I tend not to worry. Also, once they start walking/running, they burn off so many more calories.

18 lbs doesen't really sound all that bad. I think DD was only at about 21 lbs at 15 months. I hope the test results put your mind at ease! Keep us posted! :hug99:

I have a good friend who went through the testing with her boy and everything came back normal. I think the worst of it for the kid was having blood drawn and the worst of it for his mom was waiting for the results. Turns out he's just a slow gainer. So, it really could be just the way they are. However, if there is a problem, it's better to get it diagnosed and treated now so their growth won't be affected long-term.

It sounds like they are okay, but it's good that your doctor wants to back himself up. It's most likely just the way they are, especially since they aren't showing any other signs. Just wanted to give you a :hug99: and tell you not to worry too much, I'm not going to say not to worry because we all know that's NOT possible. :) Keep us updated on their test results.

I have this situation with one DD. She hasn't gained weight from 12months-16months. She is also very, very active but can be a picky eater. We're waiting two more months before doing all the blood tests but the doctor suggested focusing on high calorie food. Since yours are already good eaters. maybe you could try adding more of the high calorie stuff. If you need ideas for that, I have a few.
I hope all the blood work comes back okay. When will you hear?

Sarah barely gained anything during that time -- 4 oz from 9-12 months (after gaining 2 lbs from 6-9 months). We didn't have a 15-month appt, but she had gained more than 1.5 lbs from 12-18 months! So it definitely seems to come in spurts.

I'm glad your doctor is doing blood work just to besafe, though. :hug99:

We just had our 18 month appt last week and found out that both of our boys not only hadn't gained weight since their 15 month appt, but both had lost about 1/2 a pound! They're both around 23 lbs with big bellies, chubby arms and legs, healthy appetites and lots of energy, so I'm trying not to worry. We'll go back in 3 months to see if they've gained.

I have the exact same problems with my girls. They were 16 1/2 lbs. at their 12 month check up and 16 lbs. 3 months later. At their 9 month, I think they were something like 14 1/2 - 15. They're going to get weighed again when they go for part II of their flu shot next week. If they haven't gained weight we get to do tests, but the doctor isn't overly worried. I was a small kid, so they're probably just scrawny little munchkins :)

DD has been between 18-18 1/2 pounds from 12 to 18 months. She's getting more active and getting taller, both of which can suck up calories. We JUST started to add some Carnation Instant Breakfast to her morning milk, but that's the only significant change.

She's a pretty good eater, but a slow and pokey one.

Breakfast is the easiest time for me to pack in the extras, too. The CIB in her milk, butter on her waffle/pancake, whole milk in the oatmeal, fat from the yogurt. She starts off with lots of calories and then has regular amounts for the rest of the day. I'd say the breakfast process takes us about an hour. Milk/CIB while watching Sesame Street, pancake/waffle, digest for about 5-10 minutes, oatmeal and yogurt.

Mine gained very little between those months, so hopefully you don't have anything to worry about. Once they hit 18 months they seem to be gaining pretty well again.

    Hang in there.

No real advice, just hugs! My Aidyn was 17.13lbs at 15 months. She hasn't gained very much since then either. Since the girls are growing taller and eating I would think the doc just wants to be safe. Keep us updated!
