I had my growth and echocardiogram ultrasound this week, and everything went great! Babies are 22weeks, and weighed 1.1 pounds, and 1 pound. He said plenty of fluid, flowy membrane, everything looked great (no heart defects either).

Doc (peri) said that if I am clear within next 2 weeks, that that is a great thing. That the laser is usually done before 24 weeks, so we are past the "danger zone".

I am SO happy about my babies progression obviously, and would love to be able to put the TTTS in the back burner after 24 weeks. It will still be there, but I was wondering what the chances of it rearing its ugly head as I get further along.

Congrats! That's a huge relief! There is something called "acute TTTS" which can happen at delivery but is rare. My peri was happy after I passed 26 weeks. I was still watched for it, but not weekly. It can still develop later in the game, but I don't know the stats on how often that occurs. Regardless, there are no surgery options after 22 or 24 weeks (can't remember now) and you would have to deliver them if it occurs.

That is great news!! :woo: I don't know when the "safe" zone is though in regards to TTTS. One thing I have learned when it comes to having kids is it seems like there is Always something to worry about! Good Luck with the remainder of your pregnancy!! :yahoo:

That is great news!! I know ttts can occur at any time, but I'm pretty sure the later it occurs usually it is less threatening. Monitoring is still key. I was monitored twice a week from 20 weeks on and thankfully mine never went past stage 1.

Not sure about when the safe period is. Mine probably had the acute TTTS at delivery. Baby A delivered and once his cord was clamped all of the blood from the placenta was shunted to baby B. B came out bright red and it took about 6 weeks before it calmed down. The docs all said to not worry about any ill effects since it was only for 6 minutes.

Good luck to you!!! I didn't worry too much about TTTS as long as they were both growing similarly in utero.

I know it can occur at any time during a mono/di pregnancy but the further along you get the better the outcome can be. I had u/s with the peri every 2 weeks to monitor for TTTS. They suspect my boys had a bit of it at the end of my pregnancy because baby A was VERY pale with a lower than normal red blood cell count and baby B was VERY red with a higher than normal red blood cell count. Good luck and happy to hear things are going so well!! :) :)

Thanks ladies! I think what my doc was saying, once we hit 24 weeks, they no longer do the surgery, because the babies can survive in the womb with it (for short amount of time), and then we can deliver if needed. I think he wanted to give me some positive thoughts, which is appreciated.

I am still monitored every two weeks by the peri. They do fluid/cervix, and then growth/cervix every two weeks...so we will be watched carefully throughout! :)

My doc told me at my 24 week appointment that I would start having monthly ultrasounds starting at 28 weeks because between 28 and 32 is when TTTS is most common to develop and they needed to monitor for it.

But I really think my doctor is a nutcase. He didn't schedule for an ultrasound from 20 weeks to 28 weeks and I have mono di twins.

Congrats on the great news and hope you continue to do great.

You know I didn't have alot of US's done in between the 20 wk to 28 wk period. I felt a little paniced but the practice I was at sees tons of twin mama's and has a peri to refer them to if needed. Mine could barely see the separating membrane early on but alway did see it (even faintly). When I freaked about now being monitored very much my dh said to relax bc until we get to a certian point there is not a ton that can be done. I'm thinking that having little control over outcomes of pregnancies is one of the most difficult things in life. Oh, and then there is the part about raising them once they get here all safe and sound (whew).
Congrats to you. Keep on keeping on.
