    True or False?

Somedays I take my showers in the am and sometimes in the pm.

My water didnt break on my own with the boys so this is new. I was talking to my friend today and she said she didnt think you were supposed take a shower after your water broke b/c of the chance of infection. I would hate for my water to break and me not be able to take a shower. Gross!!!

I would think you could not take a bath but why not a shower?

Also I'm 3cm dialated and I'm still taking baths? Am I not supposed to be?

You're not supposed to take a bath after your water breaks in case the water flows into your vagina and can cause infection - never heard that about showers though...

Well, baths are supposed to be a no-no because of the chance of bath water getting into your vagina and causing an infection. Some studies have shown that there isn't a higher risk at all. Showers are generally considered safe as long as you are able to stand that long.

Really, this is something to ask your doctor since he or she will be better informed.

I've never heard that about showers after your water breaks. I took one right after my water broke. It broke when I woke up and got out of bed in the am with Olivia. I showered before I even told DH that I thought it broke. After being on hospital bedrest for 4 weeks before thet wins...the last week of that on mag and no showers...I sure as heck was going to look good when I had Livi. I look back at those first pics with the twins and I was a greasy, disgusting disaster! LOL!!!!

I would maybe ask your OB about being dilated and taking baths...that I don't know about, but it makes sense to not do it.

Same as everone else. I've heard no baths due to infection. I also took a shower after my water broke with the boys. The main restriction I had with showering when pregnant with the boys was that I was limited to 10 minutes because I was on strict bedrest for PTL and dilation.

I think your friend is confusing showers with baths. Showers are fine after your water breaks, it's just baths that are a no-no. Like a pp said though, there is no evidence that baths are a problem its just what has always been said.

Thats what I figured.... I would not be going to the hospital after my water broke with out a shower. No happening. I have still been taking my baths its VERY relaxing.
