Hi, my boys are 7 months old now. Every time I give them a bottle, they are not ready to take more than 3 oz.
They take 3 oz and then, after an hour, another 3. So, it's like a 6 oz bottle split into two feeds one hour apart. This drives me crazy.
It feels as if I am feeding them all the time. Why are they not taking a 6 oz bottle at one stretch?
Is there anything I can do to help them get there?
Also, they are not STTN yet...They still wake up every 3-4 hours at night!!!!
    I really need some help!!!

PS - I give them solids twice a day now. One at around 10 AM and one in the evening at around 6:30 PM.
And, on an average they take about 25-28 oz of formula every day.

You can ask your doctor - but this is what I would consider -
After they stop the 3 ounces, try and strech them until 4 hours later-- play with them distract them ect for four hours, and see if they will then eat more. They might be taking 3 ounces because they at their previous 3 ounces less then four hours before (an hour after htey had started the bottle) so they are hungry but not hungry enough to eat more than that.. Do this for a couple days but also make sure that they eat enough throughout the day.. i'd keep track for a couple days.

how frustrating for you... how long are you waiting between feedings? maybe if you wait a little longer they will take more in a feeding? what do they weigh? what's your bed time at night? when do they wake up for the day?

I wait 3-3.5 hours between feeds. Probably I should stretch to 4 hours??? They weigh around 18 lbs now. And they sleep at around 8 PM. But wake up again at 11 PM, 3 AM and 6 AM and take about 3-4 oz each time.

Mine were taking small amount all day long at 7 months old. So, I started to stretch them out to every 4 hours and it worked beautifully. GL!

My boys were not eating their full bottles during the day and I realized it was because they were eating too much during the night. After I stopped the night feeding, they ate more consistently during the day.

I was also going to suggest that you give them 3 ounces and then if they fuss the next hour that you try your hardest to get them wait until it's been 3 hours b/w feeds. I would also suggest cutting down on the night feedings. If they fuss 1 hour after eating 3 ounces I would try to distract them - take them for a walk in the stroller or something to try to get them to go 3 hours - maybe at the next feeding they will take the entire amount. GL!
