No poop for four days

My little girl hasn't pooped for four days now....she is passing a lot of gas, but nothing else. She seems to be straining a little bit, but doesn't seem overly uncomfortable, and is still eating and sleeping normally.

Some days, she gets about 24 ounces of breastmilk via bottle, and when I can't keep up, she gets about 16 to 20 oz. of breastmilk, and 4 to 8 oz. of formula (Neosure). I know it's somewhat normal for breastfed babies to go long stretches without pooping, but since she does get some formula, I'm wondering if she's constipated?

Is it even possible to be constipated at one month old? I have no experience with this, as my older DD pooped five times a day until she was a year old, LOL.

    Thanks for any advice!

My girls went as long as 11 days when they were that age. I worried - but no one else (including Pedi) did because they were on breast milk.

My guys did the same thing at a month old. I was so worried but the public healthy nurse assured me it was normal. At the one-month mark their bowel seems to go through a bit of a transformation. She'll likely poop less frequently now.

Same thing happened here with Emma. I think four days was her longest stretch. Our pedi said it's cause for concern if the stools are super hard and pebble like. If you continue to be concerned, why not give the pedi a quick call.

On the other hand, we couldn't keep up with Lauren's poop diapers. She was like 5-6 times PER DAY for weeks.

Yep, mine went from pooping every diaper, to a few days...normal i guess. I'm BF too.

One of my babies would go this long between poops at that age, and she just wasn't getting enough to eat (wasn't a good nurser). We found this out when we went in for a weight check. If you know your baby is gaining weight normally, I wouldn't worry about the poop issue. She'll probably poop today and it'll be a huge blowout and then you'll know it's all okay.

Isn't it amazing how two babies can have different systems, even when their diets are exactly the same? My babies' "diaper contents" are always different from each other and they're both bf'ing (with some solids now).

I was worried about this too. My DS seems to go every 5 days...my DD every 2... so at first I thought there was something wrong with him...but the ped told me it was totally normal ...both mine are bottle-fed btw ... Actually DS is due for one soon! He does seem to strain a lot, and it is a little more aggravated the day he ends up going... but it's usually a little hard in the beginning, but then comes out all soft. It's hard not to compare your two babies, but they really are different.

As long as the poop coming out when she *does* poop isn't hard there is no need for concern. If it's hard then give your pedi a call to see what he/she recommends.

When Noah was younger I worried about the same issue. The pedi says it is nothing to be concerned about until after a week or so. No that I was comfortable with that answer but, he eventually went after a few days.
