No place to sit

We have turned our couches around. We now have no where to sit. This was not a problem when we had one baby. When he climbed on the couch, I taught him to sit or get down. My girls, however, are 15 months. They climb up on a couch and almost go over one of the sides. They do this at the same time, maybe on different couches, maybe on the same couch, but on different sides. I got sick of running from one couch to the other getting them down so I turned the couches against the wall and now we have no where to sit. Anyone have this problem?

Yes, we definately have the same problem right now!!! That's funny that you turned the couches around, I never would have thought of that. Mine are now trying to climb up the backs of the couches. I just know one day I'm going to be in the kitchen and one of them will get up on the back of the couch or fall over the back of it! Yesterday Madison was on the arm of the loveseat trying to climb down to the floor, but of course its too high for her to do that. They're also climbing on top of the coffee table.

    They're making me bonkers!

Instead of turning the couches around, I took off the cushions during the day, and that significantly lowers the height, so they're less likely to fall off either end. Also, I put the cushions on the floor as kind of a landing pad, so that if they do fall off, it's on a soft landing area. But this is only for the one couch they can climb up on. They still cant climb on the other two.

I luckily just have one who has figured it out so far, so we are just trying to teach her the proper way of getting down...it takes patience, that's for sure. :)

Jazzy quickly learned to get on and off the couch safely. Jessy just started getting on the couch and gets off better than Jazz. They do get in trouble alot for not sitting down while on the couch

Mine do the same as well. I would put pillows all around the couch until they figured out how to go off of the sides without landing on their head. They now have it down pretty good, but, then again, our couch is not on legs making it alot lower to the ground.

I just went through the nightmare of this a couple of weeks ago and posted about it. Fortunately, only one of my dds has the strenth to pull herself up and the other one I have to lift up. I have been working really hard with them to teach them that the couch is for sitting. Look at mama. Mama sit. They know when they start to stand up on the couch I go uh uh or sientate! (spanish for sit down) and they sit back down and then clap for themselves for listening. In the beginning I was having a heart attack as I had to be constantly constantly constantly watching them. I brought down my 14 yr old stepsons bean bag chairs and put them on either side of the armrests which on my couch are very low so they can easily go over. I put my couch throw pillows on the floor in front and you know what in the beginnning, they fell off a bit and they learned quickly. It helps that I have a pretty thick carpet. Most times I was right there to help them when they were falling but not always. Sometimes they were just too darn quick for me. My other couch has the end tables on either end so they can't go sideways on that one. I actually had to teach Lorien how to get off the couch and now she can get up and down by herself. Arwen I'm still working on teaching how to get down. I turn her onto her stomach and pull her feet down towards the floor so she can get a feel for the motion. I would give them some opportunity to learn. Perhaps you could turn around one of the couches? and put lots of pillows around? If you can put one of the ends of the couch up against a wall then they can only go down from the front and one side and it might be easier for you to monitor them. Maybe just turn it around for like 15 min or so a day and give them the practice. Sorry you going through this. It is deffinately scary.
