I was just wondering if anyone else had been thru this. I have my stage 2 ultrasound next week (what a pain to even get in) to find out my new and actual edd. They had me at what would now be 28 w and 4 d originally. Then they said I was what would now be 26 w and 4 d. But told me to continue to count myself at the original edd. The girl twin baby b is smaller, but they told me that didn't matter they go by the larger twin anyway, which really confuses me as to why it is changing then. Everyday I was in the hospital I was told they were working on my edd and that they just didn't know. It kind of leaves me feeling frustrated, especially since every day is so precious when you have already been in preterm labor. They even said they aren't even sure if the stage 2 u/s will tell them anything. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever been thru this or something similar???

I haven't been through this, but I sure do hate it when they try to tell my due date is something other than I know it to be. I know exactly when my last period started, I know when I ovulated and I had an hcg of 20 on cycle day 25 .... so hello I think I know my due date!

This didn't happen to me, but friends of ours. She was older (early 40's) and was kinda perimenapausal, which when you have a period maybe every 1, 2, 3, or 4 months and it's very irregular. They moved her due date several times, and tried to base it on baby weight and measurements. I think she ended up delivering about a month and a half before her first estimated date. In the end, it kinda doesn't matter, aside from them using a steroid shot for the babies' lungs. (Some drs say the shot doesn't work before 26-28 weeks.) If they are born early, the drs will treat them based on their health, not their estimated gestation.

Just try to relax and take care of yourself!

That's exactly how I felt. Especially when if you are going to debate it, your side is I don't know. Lol.

That sounds really odd to me.. do they not go by the measurments/development? how can they be so confused? Hope they are able to figure it out for you soon. That's gotta suck

That's what I said. I was in there for a week and no one told me anything, though everyday I was promised that the next would hold answers. Then one group of docs would say one thing, then another would say something else. I got a bit crabby and actually asked them if they could all just get together and come up with something they agreed on, lol. I have done alot of research and from what I can tell one twin is always smaller then the other. They did 4 u/s while I was in the hospital. I am sure they have all the info. they need for a really good educated guess at best ;) It just seems like for some reason they don't want to commit for one or another. Depending on which department was being shipped off to for testing, even in the hospital some places had me listed as one due date, other places as another. I felt pretty stupid when they would look at me to confim and all I could say is, uuuuuhhhh I don't know.

it's not always accurate because you can't get exact measurements from an u/s (especially the further along you are) - just best guesses. also, all babies grow & develop at different rates so while they can say (for example) "most babies by 22 weeks gestation have a femur length of 4 cm" it's not an across the board sort of thing.

i also had 2 EDD throughout my pregnancy although they were only a week apart. i finally got fed up & had a chat with my OB about it & after discussing various factors we just picked an official one so that at least all the paper work had the same date.
