No more swaddling - what do they sleep in?

I am weaning my 5.5 month old babies off the swaddle. Right now they are sleeping with both arms out and seem to be doing fine with it. Obviously, it's summer and I live in a warm climate. The temp. in our house is usually around 77 degrees at night, warmer during the day. We don't use our A/C a whole lot and I don't want my babies to get too warm while they sleep. I was thinking of just having them sleep in their one-piece cotton sleepers. I know a lot of people use the Halo sleep sacks. What is the advantage to using these? I am afraid that if I use the sacks, my babies will get too warm. I suppose I could just have them wear a onesie underneath, but I have all of these cute sleepers. :)

Also, is it really that bad to let them have a thin cotton blanket? They could throw it off if they got too warm.

What do your babies sleep in?

My girls haven't been swaddled since they were like 2 months old, so I don't know if I can help much. Now they just sleep in onesies, but they have a blanket they can cuddle up with if they want.

I stopped swaddling mine at around 6 months and I just have them sleep in thin footed pajamas with no blanket. We keep the house around 73 at night in their room and they seem fine with it. Mine hate any sort of blanket right now. I tried after I stopped swaddling them thinking they might be cold, but they got rid of it immediately!

We recently stopped swaddling our babies and we use the Halo Sleepsacks (used them with ds1 also). I love these! If you are worried about them getting too warm, don't buy the fleece sacks...they have cotton ones that are like a T-shirt material. They are great for summer. I like these sleepsacks because I don't ever have to worry about them being smothered by a blanket. Also, they are wide at the bottom so they are free to kick their legs (if they had a blanket, they could just kick it right off). I also like that they zip from top to bottom making it easy for diaper changes.

I think if it is warm in the house, the sleepers are probably fine. If you are feeding or changing them during the night, you could just touch their skin to see if they are getting cold.

We live in Florida so I'm not sure how our climate compares to yours, but my girls generally sleep in onesies or a t-shirt with pants (no feet).

I think they will be fine in just a onesie. Ours have slept in a onesie during the summer but mainly we use a short sleeved onesie with a cotton sleep sack, they don't get too warm in those.

I use the halo sleep sacks. The AC gets really cold in their room for some reason, so I use the fleece with onsies. Even though they roll around and scooch all over the place, their blanket never falls off or covers their face. I just wish I knew about them with DD1!

My girls were swaddle addicts, I graduated from the swaddle to sleep sacks. During the summer they slept in onesie with the cotton sleeveless halo sleepsack.

At that age for the summer we were in either short sleeve/pants or shorts with no blankets. We live in FL so it is pretty hot here for the summer. We keep our air at 78.

I keep my house much cooler (around 65 or so), so mine have a sleeper on under a sleep sack and a crotched blanket over their legs. They are warm but not too hot with that on.

All my kids had blankets from day one, not thick quilts but breathable blankets, and it was rare that I ever saw them over their faces, once they could flail their arms they usually pushed them down! :p

Sleep sacks here...Love them! I do use a light blanket. They get really cold and I do keep the house cooler. DH works outside and needs to be out of the heat.

Another one for sleep sacks, they are really good and you can get different togs so if it''s that hot just get a 1tog and maybe have them where vests or onsies with arms.

We keep our house fairly cool (70-72ish) in the summer and mine are currently wearing either thin footed pjs or the gowns (even though they STTN they are long sleeved) we tried the sacks but all we own are fleece and they got too warm in those:) and I have enough footed pjs for them to wear! Not much help on if it helps with weaning from swaddling, mine were pissed off with swaddling around 2 months!

Mine have never swaddled. They have always hated it. When they were little and it was still chilly outside they wore sleep sacks and then as they grew out of those they wore sleepers or the sleep and plays. Now that the weather is warm we have a couple of cute little short and t-shirt pajamas but they are hard to find (Old Navy has some). They also wear onesies.
