I am very sad if this is true. My girls have not napped in 5 days now. They just wont. They are 4 yrs old now..and I thought I would have nappers until 16..LOL

I love nap time...for me and them. They are so grumpy and tired if they don't nap..what am I to do? I think they still need them...and tell them to lay down for at least an hour everyday anyways. But they are NOT sleeping. So is this when they normally stop taking naps? Don't they still nap in kindegarten ? Do I make them sleep..seperate them? Or do I just let them do what they are doing??

    Thanks

I think every kid is different. Nicholas naps on average, every other day. He is 5. I will fight tooth and nail to KEEP NAP TIME!! lol!!

Count yourself lucky that they have nap as long as they have. I guess there are some kids who nap until Kindergarten...but more the exception than the rule. While I read in a sleep book, that 90% of kids under 3yrs take a nap....the percentage(can't remember exact) fell dramatically by age 4. So I think it likely is the end of DAILY napping.

Like any schedule change, there is a "transitional" period. My guy's sleep needs began to change soon after they turned 3.5yrs. They went from napping everyday without fail to napping every other day. That continued for a month or so. Then it went down to about twice/week for another couple months. Since the end of October, they have totally adapted to an all day awake schedule with an earlier bedtime.

There were many grumpy moments in the late afternoons during the transition. I think I was the grumpiest since I had become so used to my "down time". But we have all adjsuted now. :)

Good luck in the transition! For some a daily quiet period works (like they do in daycares). But for us, a scheduled down period hasn't gone over. I find they do it on their own. They kinda chill or watch a show and that's their downtime.

Annie, now 5, took a nap unti she was 3 1/2. She stopped napping the day we moved into our new house. Last year sometimes she would fall asleep in the afternoon on preschool days when she had to wake up early.

Oh man! I can only hope my two nap that long!! (doubtful) Perhaps it'll go back to 'normal' with some time. :hug99: I love my recharging time!

Mine have pretty much quit. It stinks :( I think around 2.5 is when they really started trying to give it up. It makes me so sad!!!

my first 3 all gave up naps just before 4 so I'm guessing its the end for you. My twin boy just tried for 2wks to give up his nap but I wouldn't cave and for the past 2days he started sleeping again. PhEW!

I would keep trying. My almost 4 year olds have weeks where they don't nap for 5 days, then nap for 6, don't nap for 4, nap for 3, etc. I try every day for that nap!

Berkley stopped around 4. Beau has napped maybe once/week for 2 months now, Brandon still naps probably 6 days/week.
On days they don't nap, I put them down about 30 minutes early, they're asleep VERY quickly!

Some sleep at this age, some don't. My girls stopped napping at about 3 1/2 years old. I had them take rest time every day until a little over 4 years old.

If I were you, I'd separate the girls during naptime for a few days and see if that makes a difference. I started that at about 2.5 years old because they wouldn't nap if they were in the same room and we called it alone time after they got older and stopped taking naps. It was good for them to have a little quiet time to themselves anyway. :)
