My boys have been using a sippy for juice since 6months but if I put milk in it....there was hell to pay!
Slowly, I started giving them half of milk in bottle & half in cup & they started to get used to it.
Yesterday, I thought I'd try & see what happened if I only did a sippy cup breakfast, lunch & dinner.
It was hard at first~ my son Nicholas would cry & throw it on the floor but my other son David drank it all.( well mostly!)
So, I only gave them sippy cups today & we made it the whole day without a bottle! Nicholas is getting the hang of it & David has almost mastered it.
I've been holding Nicholas when he's halfway through drinking & helping him with the rest. I'm so proud of them!
It takes longer & it's a lot messier but in the end it's worth it. I had planned on doing this when they turned one but they were ready & so was I !!
I put all the bottles away & as of this moment we're bottle free!!! I hope I don't sound like I'm bragging ~ just wanted to share this with mom's who'll understnd my excitement!

Oh I can't wait for this! It makes me want to start practicing. What brand of sippy cups do you recommend?

Oh my goodness you just gave me hope! We will be out of the country for three weeks during the first birthday (visiting family) and I REALLY want to do be done with bottles by then. I didn't realize we could start much sooner then 1.

Congrats! Brag all you want that is EXCELLENT!

(ditto to pp what type of sippie? How do you know how much to put in? I mean, there is no measurement on the side of a sippie right?)

Bridgett, I have tried almost everyone out there! ( what a waste of money!) I ended up using the same ones we started with!
They are the NUBY ones. The boys like them b/c they control the flow...the down side is it'a not spillproof & oh, what a mess those boys made!
For practicing Id say get spillproof ones ( the kind they has a valve in it) like gerber or playtex. The soft spout worked best for us ( feels like a bottle nipple).
I didn't like the Dr.Brown sippy cups though( I loved the bottles!) the spout was hard & the boys hated it. Plus, the price is outrageous! I'd say a spillproof
Gerber or playtex to try for introducing the cup. At first your babies will only want to play with it but that's good practice. In the beginning I only put juice or water in.
Good luck & let me know how it turns out! you're going to do great! Thanks, to everyone that responded ~ I love this site & the support from all of you twin moms!

I just put 16 oz. ( 2 bottles) in measuring cup & it came out to be 2 cups. So, I just start with 2 cups & fill each with one cup. ( i think the cups are 10 oz).
Have fun on your vacation ( I'm super jealous!) & good luck with the sippycups! Btw~ in the beginning only put half the milk in cup ( & give other half when gone) so, they won't dump it all!

Sweet Girl~ Congrats on being done with bottle too!! Free at last! :D
