Are the days of 12 hour nights over??? Since about 9 mo, my twins have decided they don't want to sleep. They take a one hour nap after breakfast and about 30-60 min nap after lunch. They are so tired at 5:30/6:00 (their usual bedtime) and they go right to sleep, only to wake up 2 hours later crying hysterically. Then they want to stay up and play for 2-3 hours. But the kicker is, they still get up at 5:00 a.m.! Please tell me this is just a phase. Or are my 12 hour nights done for good?
    Has anyone else experienced this?

I usually post over at the "First Year" forum, but since I am on the cusp of 1 year, some of my questions may be better answered by the veterans! :)

Do you guys remember if you experienced this at 10 months? THANKS!

From what I remember my girls were always early risers.

They would take a nap around 9:30am and sleep for 1 1/2 hour. We would eat lunch and play and they would take their second nap around 1:30-2:00 and sleep for 1 1/2 hour - 2 hrs.

It hard to entertain them, but try to keep them up little longer so they sleep longer durning their naps. Have them take a later nap in the morning so they wake up around lunch time. Then maybe you can put them to bed closer to 7:00 or 7:30.

My girls are 2 1/2 now and for as long as I can remember we wake up at 6:00am. They go to bed at 8:00, but they don't fall asleep until 9:00ish.

    Good Luck

Hopefully it's just a phase for you. My two are still sleeping about 12 hours at night. Mine go to bed at 7:30pm and wake between 7-8am. They nap from 12:15-3 ish (Emilie only until around 2:30 or so).

It sounds like they are thinking their bedttime at 5:30/6:00 is a nap. I would try tweaking their schedule a bit and see if that helps. Good luck.

That's exactly what it seems like. I just figured they were too young for only one nap. But maybe like Chris said, that might work. Thanks!

i am sure you limited out teething already....try looking at their behavior. are they doing something new? like crawling, standing, pulling up, interacting etc. sometimes when they learn something new i was told that's all they will want to do is practice. so maybe if they have gotten better at interacting thats all they want to do. if this is it then it is only a phase. i wouldn't worry though. my DD sleeps from 8Pm till 7am and takes 1 nap a day for like 2-3 hours. DS is a different story and i don't want to hyjack your post. also did you change anything for bedtime routine? it's hard but sometimes the smallest thing makes a big difference. or also sometimes they need a slight change somewhere in there routine. you can only try and see what happends. good luck hope i was some help. remember a good saying which i say all day long

    THIS TOO SHALL PASS :D

Oh they are definitely doing new things! DS is crawling, attempting to pull up. So maybe that is it. I so hope so! I am going to try the one LONG nap and see if that works/if I can get them to do it. If not, I'll just have to deal with it. I don't think it's teething, because as long as they are up and you are not doing anything remotely related to sleeping (ie. rocking, turning lights off, singing lullabies, laying them down) they are just fine. Ugh! Just when you get used to something, they switch it up again.

    thanks everybody
