See below - anyone else heard? What are you supposed to use then? Tap water?

American Dental Association: No Fluoride for Bottle-Fed Infants

In a little-noticed but dramatic turnaround, the nation's leading fluoride advocate, The American Dental Association (ADA), issued an alert on November 9th (2006) urging parents to avoid fluoridated water when reconstituting infant formula, warning that "Infants less than one year old may be getting more than the optimal amount of fluoride if their primary source of nutrition is powdered or liquid infant formula mixed with water containing fluoride."

The dentists are worried that fluoride exposure at this age will permanently damage teeth, not protect them. A growing body of research also links
fluoride to weakened bones, reduced thyroid activity, and possibly bone cancer in boys.

The advice, however, has gone largely unheeded. Nursery Water, the nation's leading fluoridated water for babies still markets its product nationwide at Wal-Mart and other major retailers.

Instead of nursury water you can just use distilled water instead of tap water. Or if you are to use tap water you can always boil it first

We used tap water from the beginning, and never boiled it. Basically if you drink it, they can drink it. Mine also got vitamins with floride perscribed by the ped since the water here doesn't contain floride.

Personally, I think that Nursery water and other bottle water for infants is a waste of money. Unless you have well water--and some well waters are actually very good, that is bad, then I would just use tap water.

Not all well water has flouride in it, thankfully our don't. My pedi wanted to put my girls on flouride drops and I choose not to. My dh has never had flouride and he hasn't ever had a cavity. I don't personally see the point, but thats IMPO.

I agree! I am the grandaughter of a dentist, and although I don't know what age I was first given flouride, I am 30 years old and have had one filling!

My mother thinks it is important to give babies flouride, but she is a Dr. and would probable be interested in this new research! Thanks!

I guess I'll be buying distilled water. I have been using tap water, but our tap water is flouridated.

Well I am TOTALLY freaked out with all of this flouride talk. My one main question.... why hasn't Medical Association or non-dentist come out then and talked about affects?

Well, I've been using Nursery Water (with fluoride) per my pedi's recommendation so I guess when we go for Synagis on Thursday I'll be asking about this. We have well water.

Thankfully we have been using bottled distilled water. We buy the generic brand (usually walmart brand), much cheaper than that nursery water. Both are "steam distilled" but the Nursery water has added flouride.
