I haven't heard that. I'd ask him what about the seaweed is a concern?

I eat Nori at home all the time! No seaweed would be news to me!

I lived in Japan while pregnant. Ate lots of nori, stayed away from the raw sushi (mostly). I have never heard of that. Wonder if it has to do with the amount of iodine?

No. My doctor actually told me I could eat raw sushi if I wanted.

I was told the only concern about raw sushi was the levels of mercury in some of the fish. But, no reason I can't have a little. My doctor never said anything about the seaweed. I would often stick to the cooked or fishless sushi. I had a chart to tell me which fish and seafood to be concerned about so I knew if I wanted fish, sushi, raw or cooked, I'd know what I was safe with, how much I can have of a specific fish, and what to avoid.

Fish to avoid or eat during pregnancy:

You can eat seaweed while pregnant:

I think your doctor was nervous about what kind of seaweed since brown seaweed is not good for a pregnancy, but seaweed used in sushi is fine.
