Some days I feel so inept. For those of you who are bottle feeding, when did you go up to a level 2 nipple? We're using the Dr. Brown's bottles and I have no idea when they should start using a level 2. They're eating about 4-5 ounces per feeding now - I'm wondering if the level 2 will help them down it better.

    Ugh...thanks for your help!

We used those bottles too and when they were around 6 months old I tried switching the nipples to a stage 2 and they couldn't get anything out. I switched back to the stage 1 and never switched again. As they got a little older they just started drinking faster. It wouldn't hurt to try if you think they would do better. I knew A&A weren't doing good bc nothing was coming out. HTH!

We used Avents, but the general recommendation is to move up if they are 1) taking longer than normal to finish their bottles, or 2) frustrated while drinking (most likely because it is not coming out fast enough). Be forewarned, that when you do switch it will be messy at first, dribbling down their little chins. It may take a few feedings to adjust to the new flow.

(And FWIW, this was the same question I asked in my very first TS post! ;))

You could always do a stage 2 "trial run" I did that with my dd because it seemed like her feedings were taking forever. The first time we tried she couldn't keep up- the flow was too much for her. We stayed at the stage 1 nipple until I thought she was ready again. I think she was probably 4-5 months old when she took the stage 2. Good luck!

we switched to level 2's around 2 months and are now on level 3's at 4 months!

good luck and tes expect it to take few feedings for them to adjust-

My DS loves a fast flowing nipple or he gets mad and stops eating. Hey if they can eat faster why not. YOu spend snough time feeding as it is. It was worth it the first few feeding to help them learn how to eat with a faster nipple.

I use the doc brown bottles too, and mine started the level 2 nipple a few weeks ago and it's great because it's taking them half the amount of time to eat! My girls were about 2 and a half months old when we switched to level 2; we bought some replacement level 2s and on the box it said level 2 was for ages 3 - 6 months.

We use playtex and switched to the fast flow right at 3 months. DS was getting so mad and it took him forever to eat. Like a pp said, he was really messy at first, and now still is when he's starving, he gets so excited he forgets he doesn' t have to suck so hard and fast. DD was a champ though, and it helped my little peanut to eat more b/c she gets bored after about 8-9 minutes, now she can down a 6 ounce bottle in about that time and get on with having fun!

We use gerber bottles, but we knew it was time to switch to fast flow nipples when the girls were getting frustrated while drinking. They were HITTING the bottles and crying so it was fairly obvious that they were frustrated. Once we started with fast flow (I think it was around 6 or 7 months), they were fine and took there bottles a lot quicker.

Mine are 9 months and i have never changed from a slow flow nipple and they seem to do fine. Should i reconsider this? I never felt that it was an issue except when they were smaller and could only eat so fast... Now it is no problem... Hmmm makes me think...
