    Hi ladies
I don't post a lot but do read a lot of your posts and learn from them every day. My question is this...
How do you night train? My girls are 3 1/2 years old and have been day trained for well over a year. They are still soaking wet every morning when they wake up. I am not sure if they are even ready but if and when they are how do you train for night? Are there special sheets to buy that don't soak through to their mattresses? I can't even imagine how horrible that would smell...stale urine in their beds. YUK!!
Anyway, any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

bed wetting up to the age of 5 isnt unusual even though it may be frustrating.

they could possably have enuresis which is a common bed wetting dissorder, if they have been trained for this long and still havent grown out of night wetting it could be a possibility.

if not, they should have night-trained themselfs by the age of 5 as at this age they have a

I don't have much advice on how to night train, but I would recommend you let the girls wear training pants at night until they start waking up dry. I've had my share of wet beds with my oldest son. It's not fun. :( Make sure they know that you understand it's hard for them to wake up to go to the bathroom so the training pants are just for nighttime until they stop wetting their bed. You should limit their fluid intake an hour or two before bedtime. And, make sure they go to the bathroom before going to sleep. I definitely say get waterproof mattress covers which you should be able to find at stores like Target or Walmart; they're made of some type of plastic or vinyl.

I think the PP is right to mention enuresis. You may want to ask your Pedi about that.

I honestly don't think there is anything you can do but wait for their bodies to be ready. I know some people limit beverage intake close to bedtime while others will get the children up during the night to get them to go, I didn't think those were effective methods that would work for us. I just waited until they had a week of dry diapers before changing them over to underpants. There is an actual chemical in their body that has to be present to allow them to go all night dry, until that chemical is present there is nothing you can do to help it along.

I had heard of waking them in the middle of the night but didn't feel right doing that either. I guess I just wait until they are ready. I really don't have a problem with it yet. I will mention it my doc next time I see her but unless they are still doing this when they are over 5 then I won't worry too much.
    Thanks

We are almost done with it now. There a really inexpensive cheats you can buy. I paid $10 each through Sears. They lay under the sheets and are waterproof. The trick to a dry night is to reduce liquid intake before bedtime till there old enough to wake at night themselves. My girls we wake them(ok we;re awake), and take them to pee around midnight. Most night Lauren dones't pee but everynight Kristina does.

We've been at it a month and only had 4 wet night...Lauren 2 times this week(my boo-boo), and Kristina has been dry for 3 weeks now.

Reducing liquids before bed slowly before going in nighttime training with panties, so they don't notice as much. Kids don't need a full glass before bed. We only give a small drink around 5pm, then thats it. They go to bed at 6:30-7pm(poor lauren asks to go to bed if its anylater), and sleep most days till7-7:15pm(when I wake up ).

Good luck. It s all a personal choice whenever your ready. Waking at night is nto as bad as you think...it helps them understand when you need to pee you wake up, not go in your bed!

I have one who has been night trained for over a year--the day he pooped in the toilet was the last time he wore a pull-up. My other boy day trained 6 months earlier and still wears a pull-up at night. We have tried the "tricks" but they don't work. If he can't stay dry by his 5 year old check up, I will discuss it with the ped.

When we trained DD, I only used underwear even at night. She was in thick trainers with plastic plants and we had the Ultimate Crib Sheet on too. We would limit liquids after dinner and for the first 2 months I would wake her and take her at 10pm and my husband would wake her and take her at 6am. She did great! We rarely had accidents. On the weekends after a month, DH skipped the 6am since he slept in and when she was consistenly dry in the AM so we fazed that out. We then fazed out the 10pm too (after 2 months) and just made sure she went right before bed. She wakes in the middle of the night occasionally to go to the bath room but not that often. She has been easy but DS has proved to be a challenge so far!

    Good luck!
