what kind of night routine did you have your twins on at 2-3 mos? Our girls are now 4 mos old (almost 10 wks adjusted) and we don't have a good night time routine for them. We put them down around 8:30/9 and they fuss for a bit but usually are down by 9:30. Before I was feeding them again at 12:30/1 (pretty much in their sleep) and then dad was trying to feed them around 5/5:30am but they were waking around 4am and he was having a hard time getting them back to sleep after the feed. I started letting them sleep through just this weekend to see how they would do. Last night they woke up around 1:15am and were up off and on until 1:50am, then slept til 2:40am when I finally fed them. But then one was up at 5:30am but dad managed to get her back to sleep until 6:45am. Of course after such a late AM feeding they are pretty much awake for the day. The problem is that during the week dad can't really start feeding them later than 5:30am because he works. Otherwise it's just me and based on how things are going so far I won't last a day on just 2 hour spurts of sleep. I read somewhere if you put them down earlier they will sleep longer - I think tonight we will try putting them down around 7:30pm (they have a hard time from 6-8:30 anyways) and see if I can get them to sleep until 12:30/1 and then again until 5:30.

So what kind of routine did you have your twins on at this age? Just curious to see if there's something else to try. I have flipped through the happy child, healthy sleep habits book but for some reason I just don't get what it's telling me to do.

Mine are just 3 months old and they go down at 7 no later. We feed them st 11 ish and they sleep until about 4 ish then feed and go right bsck doen til 7 ish. They sleep all night between those feeds so from 7 to 7 with 2 feeds. I dream of no more night feeds but they do really well apart from that.

We started to put them down earlier at that age (we got HSHHC book then as well - it's got some great ideas, you are probably too sleep deprived at the moment to take it in). We were putting them to bed at 7.30/8 to begin with and they would fuss till 9.30 so we started putting them bed much earlier, as in starting the bath, milk, bed routine around 5.15 and they were in their cribs by 6pm. Only after just a day, we found that they fell asleep almost immediately, then woke for a feed at 11pm and then 2am, then 5.30am. We still have this routine and even though they sleep through the night, they still wake at 5.30 and I'm like you, my DH can help feed at that time but he leaves for work shortly after.

Putting them to bed earlier really worked for us, they were so fussy in the early evening, that they must have just been overtired! And this gave them the sleep they needed at the front end of the sleep.

With HSHHC book, try just reading "Months One to Four" section, that has some great tips on how much sleep they need, what sort of routine to expect etc. You can always come back to the other sections later, I found that he reinforces the steps throughout the book which I really liked. Persevere with it, because for me it was a life saver - I still refer to it!
