Lately we have been having some sleep problems with Reece. He goes to bed fine, but around 11-12pm he will wake up screaming. He will scream uncontrollably for about 10-15 minutes and nothing I do will console him. He hold him, comfort him, and a lot of times I have a hard time waking him up. He just doesn't respond to me. Tonight I took him out into the hall and finally woke him up and he looked around like he had no idea what was going on.

Anyone experience this and is it night terrors?? What should we do?

It sounds like it could be. Eve experienced one of those a couple of weeks ago. Really the only thing to do is make sure they're safe, which they usually are in a crib. It's difficult to watch but knowing that they won't remember it helps. I really wish someone would give it a different name, though, because I don't like to think of something terrorizing my baby :(

    Night Terrors

I found the above link to be really helpful when we were having some similar issues with Tyler. I found that if he was really, really overtired, we could expect a night terror. The first time I tried to wake him up and it was a disaster. I seriously was thinking that something horrible was wrong and we were about to go to the ER. Then I remembered someone asking about night terrors. Once I got him settled down, I googled it and came up with the above link. It was exactly what we went through.

Now if he has them, I know not to wake him and just do my best to keep him in his bed. Sometimes I just sit on his bed and hold him. He doesnt have them too much anymore thank goodness.

    HTH!

DS has these, usually within 2 hours of going down for the night. It's often done and over within 5-10 minutes and he doesn't wake up through it. A couple times it went on for 30 minutes straight. Very harrowing. No advice other than what PPs have said, just make sure he's safe.

Our poor DS had one last night. I wasnt sure what was wrong with him but that article described it to a T. It was a couple hours after he went to bed and he had already dozed off in the highchair at dinner, he was thrashing and whimpering and I could do nothing for him and the slightest touch would really upset him. This has happened once or twice before and it is a terrible feeling not to be able to console him.

My oldest DD has been having these terrors for years...and they never get easier to sit through helplessly and watch! She started to get them at a time when she had been through quite a bit (we lost my Dad unexpectely and I started a new job farther from home) so I was convinced that has to be what was wrong with her. She would get to the point where she was running around the house and jumping up and down screaming but not making any sense....very scary stuff....
I took her to the ped and he explained all about the terrors and how horrible they can be. He explained that over the years they could lessen but sometimes they last into adulthood but at a much lesser magnitude.

I'm sorry that you are going through this big hugs....
