I started contracting at 9:30 last night, but went to bed at 10 thinking I would just go to sleep and it would stop. Wrong! My lower back started hurting so I asked DH to put IcyHot on it and that usually works...nope still there and the tightening is coming around every 10 minutes. So then I decided to soak the the tub thinking that would do it....nope they got stronger. It is 1:00 and it has been over 3hrs...so I called....talk to my OB and went in. I got hooked up and still was feeling them and one of the nurses said I was dehydrated (and I felt like it ). Usually I am pretty good about drinking fluids too. So they said to start sucking water down and I did.

About an hour later they have pretty much stopped, but they roll in the IV. I hate those and haven't had one since I had DD. It was not fun. My arms and hands are still pretty bruised from the 3hr. glucose test first. So the first nurse tries my right wrist....blows the IV....hurt bad. Second nurse comes in and does my forearm on the left...my skin was so tought she could get it in at all. Third nurse comes in and does the left wrist....she says the same thing....skin to tough and I bend the end of the catheter. So I am hurting at this point from trying to get the IV. I finally said that my contractions have stopped...do I really need this? So they go ask my OB and he said no I didn't. I was then released with increased fluid intake...so I am working on that now, but super tired.

I did see my OB before I left who was much more pleasent at 4am than the day before. He didn't say much except keep up on my fluids and that with twins he doesn't take any chances when it comes to contracting. I keep my same appt., but he said he "might" see me before than. He kind of said something like that at my appt. too so I don't know if he is expecting things to start happening now or what...but I guess they are. So I am just tired as can be and need to go back to sleep soon.

I do have to admit though that I am really starting to get the delivery jitters....especially with the whole IV thing.

April that's great that the contractions stopped on their own, with no meds! I'm glad that you are ok and sorry you had such a rough, late night in the hospital. It's no fun, I know.

Stay hydrated and keep an eye out for more contractions.

    Take care!! :hug99:

Make sure you keep hydrated and keep resting. Whenever you are in doubt you should definitely call, glad that all is well with you now. Take care of yourself and those little munchkins. :hug99:

Glad to hear drinking did the trick and glad to hear you went in.

Did they say if the contractions were causing any cervical changes?

Sorry to hear about the iv. Mine was always tough too and I had to have one in for soo long that they had to change the position and it was soo hard for them one time they were changing that my peri happened to come in while they were struggling and he said well since you are having soo much trouble lets see what happens when we keep it out. I was actually happy about that in the end because I went on pills which meant I was on my way to heading home from the hospital (I was in for PTL issues).

I went in for a fluid check because I thought I might be leaking and when my OB was discharging me he said he would see me again before the real thing and that that was ok. It was nice to know he understood but it was even nicer that I didn't have any more false alarms and he was wrong, the next time he saw me outside of the regular appointments was when my water broke and he delivered two healthy babies! It definitely is comforting to know that they understand the after hour calls and don't make you feel ashamed/upset for calling when something doesn't feel right.

Keep drinking Momma and hope things continue to go well!

No, they did not check my cervix. They wanted to monitor the contractions first. Since I had them only about an hour after I got there, they didn't do it.

I haven't had a check yet, and I know they won't unless there is a real reason til 36wks. I am fine with this b/c I don't want them disturbing anything.

Unfortunetly I am still feeling like crap though. Not really contraction wise, just no energy and just feel blah. I need to go to my pharmacy today so I am going to check my BP. I don't know if it is that making me feel this way, or if I am just tired still, or if it is my sinuses.

I would think that contracting as often as you have been would be considered a reason. Once you reach 36 weeks there isn't really a reason to check as most docs will not stop labor at that point.

Yes, but they don't want to disturb anything....and I don't want them to either. Anytime anything is done to my cervix while pg, I get brown discharge and old blood. I really don't want that.

A majority of my practice's twin pregnancies go full term....maybe this is part of the reason why.

My BP was good yesterday so I think I was still wore out. I finally felt better once I went out in my pool and floated around for awhile :)

Sorry to hear about your ordeal, but glad you are back home now. I had similar problems during DS pg with getting IV's in. On two different admissions, two nurses tried two times each, unsuccessfully, and both times after those 4 sticks, they brought the anesthesiologist up to insert my IV. I liked it when he did it, because he always numbed the area with lidocaine before he started poking around, and he always got the vein on the first try. If you are a hard stick (which it sounds like you are), you should just let them know that up front, and if they can't get it in after one or two tries, ask them to get the anesthesiologist to do it.

    Good luck!
