Nifedipine

I'm on Nifedipine now to stop PTL for at least one more week. I was wondering if anyone else has taken this and if so, what were your side effects? I'm itchy all over, no hives or anything like that and can't stay out of the bathroom. (sorry tmi) I was just wondering if this is normal. I have an appt with the OB tomorrow and will ask then too, but the itching is driving me mad! Mostly itching on palms of my hands, elbows, and knees. Some on my hips and belly, but not so much. TIA!

The only side effect I had was lightheadedness, but that was when I was on the highest dose they give (30mg). The itching could be from something else. I have read that itching increases in pregnancy due to the hormonal changes and that itchy palms can be from the excess estrogen in your body right now. As for the bathroom issue (I am assuming you mean loose stools), that could be a sign of impending labor. I hope you get some answers at your appt tomorrow. Good luck!

 

I had no side effects from Nifedepine, I'd definitely ask your doctor about it.

 

Definitely check with your doc, I was on nifedipine post delivery for my blood pressure and the main side effects I had were heart palpitations, flushing and lightheadedness.

 

I also had the heart palpitations and the lightheadness. Horrible.

But no itching or other noticiable symptoms.

I would mention to your dr for sure.
