Hey guys, so yesterday at 32 weeks, I have been prescribed 60mg of Nifedipine 3 times a day. And now that I am at home googling it, it looks like they recomend a maximum of 60 mg A DAY! So have any of you guys had such a high dosage..?
    Thank You :)

I don't remember my dosage. I know I took it every four hours so I'm sure I exceeded 60mg per day. I would definitely speak to your doctor about your concerns, perhaps there was a mistake? Did they just send you home with it? Do you have any instructions on monitoring your blood pressure? Nifedipine is actually a blood pressure medication and just so happens to be somewhat effective as slowing PTL. I would be concerned with too high of a dosage that your blood pressure would be too low. Mine was constantly borderline low and sometimes I had to wake up and move around during the night to get it back up again. GL :)

I can't remember my dosage but I took it every six hours for six weeks. It made my heart pound and I got lightheaded for a bit after each dose but you do get a little used to it after a while.

I wish I could remember how much I was taking! Sorry I'm not much help with that.

I had been prescribe Nifedepine for having raynauds syndrome (poor blood circulation) years before I got pregnant. I started at 10 mg a day and it would only work for a few days and then I needed an increased dosage which in turn would make me lightheaded and make my legs turn purple after standing for long periods of time. The max they upped the dosage to was 60 mg a day. That 3 times a day seems a bit harsh espcially since the use they gave it to you for is not what it was made to do. I was told stopping or starting to take it at a 60 mg dose suddenly could send your heart into shock...

I would call and ask the pharmacist.

Yeah, I would call as well... I was on 10mg every 4hours. That is 60mg/day. 60mg each dose sounds pretty high.

I took nephedipine during all 3 of my pregnancies, and I believe it was the same dose that you're on. I started taking it somewhere in the latter part of my first pregnancy because of migraines. I took it through my whole second pregnancy and also my twin pregnancy. Just an FYI in case you're worried about any adverse affects on your babies, all my children are fine, physically and mentally. I even took demerol, reglan, vicodin, and demeral during the first part of my pregnancy because of the horrible migraines.

I worried the nephedipine would stop or slow my labor and I would end up being pregnant forever (not really for ever), but even with nephedipine I went into pre-term labor at about 33 weeks. I didn't deliver until 36w 3d, two healthy girls!

Congratulations on your twin pregnancy. Wishing you lots of luck.
