Elizabeth Claire.... DH and I think we might use this name for our baby girl twin (b/g set) Elizabeth is my middle name and I do not like the usual nicknames associated... beth,lizzie,liz,... we already have a little friend named Libby.
    Other ideas for us?
    Thanks, Cari C

Thanks... Ellie might be a great choice... I have a great aunt named Ella Mae, maybe our girl's nickname could be an homage to her?

We're having an Elizabeth also. My 2 year old has already dubbed her Lizzie and it has stuck. I love it now after hearing him say it!

I also had a friend in college named Elizabeth and when she was born her sister couldn't say her name and called her Libbet and it stuck! She is Libbet to this day!

I like Elle and Ellie too - that was our original plan!

Just wanted to add that our Elizabeth seems to be the dominant twin, so I secretly call her Queen Elizabeth.

Very Cute... Queen Elizabeth... my older daughter, Quincy Rose often gets called Queen Quincy or the "Q" factor since she is our feisty child too.
    Thanks for the input everyone.

SD is an Elizabeth. She goes by Lizz with friends and Beth with family. I really like Izzy and Ellie from PPs.

Sometimes M/FIL call ours Lizardbreath. :p

My niece is Elisabeth( spelled with s to be differant then normal) . My sister would always call her "Ellie bellie". I think cause she had a cute tummy. Well it eventually got shortened to Bell. Grand parents call her Lizzy.

Lily (not really a nickname for Elizabeth, but Lilibet is, and Lily could be short for that)
    Betsy
    Bitsy (or Bit)
    Liza

I also had a friend named Elizabeth who had a younger brother (similar to PP's story) -- his first name for her was "Ee-bee" and it wound up being her nickname with family and close friends.

Just be aware that Elizabeth is very hard for small children to pronounce, so it might be a while before your daughter can say her own name! My DD Amy has the middle name Elizabeth (as well as a teacher with that name), and her best version so far is "Ii-biss."

Not that I love it, but I met a woman a few years ago whose name was Zabeth (I assume short for Elizabeth). It's different, if that's what you're looking for.

Well mine name is Elizabeth… my mom hated people calling me Liz… she was very firm… if I wanted her named Liz I would have named her Liz (but my mom… is a whole other post). I have a cousin -in- law named Elizabeth and she goes by Beanie/Bean (never asked why) I attempted to go by Beth… but it fizzled… but I do have a life time nickname… everyone calls me it… friends from high school, my family (especially), my DH my BIL…. Everyone… I can remember my DH yelling it across a crowed restaurant to get my attention… and everyone stopped eating and just looked (it was a scene from a comedic movie)

I am called LIZARD (thanks to a older brother)

But now that I am going to be the only female in a house hold full of males… I think i will be the Queen…

PS little kids always call me Little Bit...

My Elizabeth also goes by Ellie. She also gets Ellie Belly, or when she was a baby Yelly Ellie because that's all she did was yell. Now it's Ellie, Ellers (just by me, no idea where that came from).

    I like Izzy too!

I like all of the names PP have posted. My neice is named Elizabeth and my brother and SIL call her Betsy. I personally dont like too much, but that is wat they chose. The ones I like the best are

    Lizzie
    Izzy
    Ellie
    Lilly

I like the idea of having people calling her whatever they want, and then when she is old enough, have her pick what name she likes best.

I think nicknames just have a way of bubbling up, I don't really see them as something to plan.
Elizabeth Claire is a beautiful name.
I really like the name Beth (love soft the th sound) Or Eli. or Eliza.
But why not just wait til you meet her and as she grows you'll see what fits...

About 6 months ago I was working with my daughters on the idea that most people have several names, I'm Melissa, but they call me mom, some people call Ms. Last name my student's call me Profe (short for professor, common in Mexico). My daughter Gabriela said, "My names Gabriela, people call me Gabby, I call myself Gabeet!" It was so cute that DH and I have started calling her Gabeet!

My top pick would have to be Izzy. (love greys anatomy) or ellie.

My bf is elizabeth, she was always called liz, but since being married and moving away, has been called Libby.

I love izzy and ellie, goodluck.

Our Elizabeth just goes by Elizabeth, but here is a list of nicknames I've heard:

    Liz
    Beth
    Betsy
    Betty
    Lisbeth
    Ellie
    Ella
    Libby
    Bess

I had thought about Ellie or Betsy, but my older two use their full names, so we just call her Elizabeth.

My youngest daughter is an Elizabeth and my brother in law started calling her Lizzie when she was young and it stuck. Of course my grandmother was Elizabeth and she always went by Lizzie as well.

I have an Emma Elizabeth, and I call her by her middle name a lot for some reason! Lizzie is the nickname I use.

It's not much shorter than Elizabeth, but my cousin's daughter is an Elizabeth and they call her Elsbeth. There were so many pretty names with this post. I loved the Emma Elizabeth and Elizabeth Claire. I love the old names. They are just classic - something a baby and grow with.

My favorite nn for Elizabeth is Beth. My best friend's daughter is Elizabeth Anne, and she has always gone by Beth Anne, not just Beth. I love her name.

I also like Lizzie and Betsy. Both are so cute!

First, I have to say I love the name. My oldest dd is Claire, 2nd dd is Elizabeth. We started out calling our Elizabeth Lizzy, but Claire couldn't say her L's (she was 1 and 1/2), so she became Izzy. She has been Izzy ever since. Even in school she is known only as Izzy. She had a little friend who kept asking who Elizabeth was, and why I kept calling Izzy that. LOL.

So what I'm saying is, I love Izzy. But I like all the others, too!

I'm going to reply without reading first, so forgive me.
Are you firm on the middle name? I've seen people combine First and middle name to make a nickname.
We know a Katherine Diane (Kadi) and Elizabeth Diane (Edie). I've always thought they were cute names. I also knew a Miriam Elizabeth who was called MeMe (or maybe it was MiMi ;) ). You might try playing around with it from that angle.

We love Elizabeth, too -- DH just couldn't convince me to name Ella "Ella Elizabeth," because I was afraid of finding out somehow that Ella was considered a derivative of Elizabeth. :D

Not a nickname one would choose but my Elizabeth gets little bits. It sounds sorta like Elizabeth and she picked it up because although a big baby now she is much smaller than her bro who on occasion I jokingly call mega bits!
