Wes and Leah are growing, growing, and growing. At what point do I need to switch carseats and what are your suggestions for carseats?

    TIA!

i posted about this a few weeks ago on the 1-5 year board and the Britax Marathon was the most popular response I got. I just ordered them from elitecarseats.com and got free shipping and a twin discount.

I just ordered the Britax Marathons as well. I did a ton of research and it seems to be the best one. You should switch carseats when your babies are near the weight limit and/or height limited stated in your carseat manual. Be careful to watch for BOTH weight and height. Some people focus on the weight and forget about the height - many babies will grow out of the infant seats long before they hit the weight limit. For some babies, this can be as early as 5-6 months. We switched at 6.5 months (but probably should have been a couple weeks earlier due to height!)

about elitecarseats.com... do you mind me asking about the twin discount... how much was it and how did you get it? I don't see anything on their site about it.

    thanks!

it was posted here a couple months ago stating she got free shipping and a twin discount. i called the number at the top of the web page and told them i heard from a twin web site (this one!)that they do free shipping and have a twin discount and I was hoping I could received that offer. She said, "no problem" and took my order over the phone. It was really easy. I am pretty sure it was 10% discount. I saved 80 dollars

I think BRU included tax becuase when i called them on the phone to ask what the total cost would be for me including the twin discount they offer, it was more money then the elitecarseats web site.

My girls are 8 months, one is still in an infant carrier, the other is in the Evenflo Triumph, we have the same one for my son and its been great. M will be switching to my sons soon. Our newest car seat was bought on ebay brand new...there are several online ebay stores that sell car seats, highchairs, strollers, etc. The first one we got in the store we paid around $125 for it, and the new one on ebay was around $90 and taht included the shipping price

You need to change when they outgrow the infant carrier. We have the graco snugride and it goes to 29 in. and 22 lbs. Mine are both in the carriers still for the car, since they were preemies, but we will be switching them at one year, although they won't be able to be forward facing yet, well DS could as he is already 20 lbs., but DD is only around 17 lbs. We have 2 convertibles that we will use, one is from oldest DD and the other from my sister and then we will buy new carseats when they can be forward facing, not sure what though.

I do know that BRU does give a twin discount and we have saved a coupon we got in the mail a few months ago for $10 off a carseat and it doesn't expire until April. [IMG] Plus we'll get the twin discount of 10% off each. [IMG]

Anything with 5-point harness - this is what's really important. We've been considering Britax, but after a motn of research bought Graco Comfort Sport for $89 from target and couldn't be happier.

The new carseats we have don't fit in my car. Haley is 28" and we will need to move her soon. I just don't know what to do. I can't find any information about what seats would fit in my Saturn.

What's the height limit on an infant car seat?

It depends on the kind of infant carrier you have, but on the Graco snugride the height limit is 29 inches. We just got the Britax Boulevard for Evan, and absolutely LOVE it!! [IMG]

I dont know what fits in a Saturn, but I just spent 4 hours at BRU trying to figure which one I could fit two of in my back seat (I have a Corolla). The end result was the Britx Roundabout was the only one they had. Unfortunately it inly goes up to 40lbs but it will do until I buy a bigger car.

I've actually been looking at lot at this, since I think we'll need new ones in about a month. DH says I'm "obsessed". [IMG]

We have the Graco Snugrides & I couldn't remember the height limit, so I called the company. They told me 29"....so then I called the pedi to see what their measurement was at their last appt, and they were 27". So I'm sure they'll outgrow the height long before the weight. I did the math & figured they're growing about an inch per month!

So far, the Britax Marathons look like the best to me. All I need to do is find a place that will let me take them to my truck to make sure they fit. I've heard a lot of people say they had a hard time since they are a pretty big carseat.

PS - I've asked here about which carseat, looked at epinions.com, consumer reports & a couple other places for reviews

FYI the older snugrides, so if you have a handmedown the height limit is 26" and 20lbs. We are using one snugride from dd and then we purchased one new.

Another alternative to Britax is the Sunshine Kids Radian. It can be rearfacing to 33 lbs. and forward facing up to 65 lbs except it's slightly taller than the Marathon. I just bought two for 3.5 year old twins and I'm about to purchase one for my 5 month old son who's close to outgrowing his snug ride. Plus they are smaller that you can fit usually three Radian's across a bench row seat no problem.

    Here is the link. http://www.specialtybaby.com/sukiracarseg.html
I love the seat and it can last from birth till they are 6 or 7. We had the Graco Comfort Sports and they are good seats but my girls quickly outgrew the height on the harness slots before the weight. So this time around I'm buying only one seat till my son is ready for a booster.

Another great place for research on carseats is www.carseat.org.
