Now that I am back on Iam going to drive you all nuts with all of my questions...

I had my b/g twins at 38wks 4 dys via scheduled c. They are very healthy born at 5lbs, 9 oz and 10 oz. At their week ped. appt. he was back to his birth weight and she had even gained 3 oz. They scored 9.9 on their Apgars and no jaundice.

They are; however fussy. Particularly while/after supplemental formula feedings. They push and scream and turn red. I posted earlier about this...

My son has not had a bowel movement in over 24hrs. Plenty of pees, no poops. Should I be worried? They were pooping 5/6 times a day in the beginning. The nurse on call said it can't be constpation because when they do go the are loose, seedy, mustard looking stools.

    Thanks,
    Amy

I would not think you need to worry until it goes longer than 48 hours. Even then it is not too much of a concern unless the baby is uncomfortable. I would call the pedi if you are worried though, it can't hurt. When ours get constipated, they tell us to give an ounce of prune juice mixed with an ounce of water 1-2 times a day and in a day or so it usually does the trick.

I remember calling the pedi when they were about 3 weeks old because one of mine went 2 days without a BM. He said not to worry until they reached 5 days!! He said constipation is very common and to bring them in at 4-5 days, but not to worry before then.

Jacob was having the same problem at that age, I took him to the ped, and all they did was put a glob of KY on the very tip of a thermometer and put the very tip(not much past the silver part) in, and it was just enough to stimulate him to go. I wouldn't worry, though, if it has only been a day.

Very normal. It slows down big time after the first days. My doc said I wouldn't have to worry until a couple of days, sometimes almost a week, unless they show signs of constipation (pain, etc.).

Our daughter would go for 4-5 days without a BM. We even tried giving her prune juice because we thought she was consitpated, but nothing happened. Rest assured that it is very normal.

That's what my pediatrician said too!! I was shocked because I thought about myself going that long! yikes. Are they formula fed? I think they poop less at the beginning on formula...if I remember correctly!?!?

Welcome to the world of soy formula. I read your previous post :) When I switched to soy my babies stopped going every day and started going every other. You can "help" you baby go by taking their temperature as suggested in PP, Marlee has decided that FINALLY she will go if I really wash her rectum well in the tub, the warm water helps it relax making it easier to poop, but when she was newborn nothing helped but the thermometer. I have to add 3 tablespoons of prune juice to their morning formula or they clog right back up and Marlee still has pretty firm poop. I read you are pumping breast milk, if you are giving breast milk it should eventually kick in and help them become more regular too.
It will eventually get better I promise and once their little digestive tracts mature a little more it won't be so bad,but I know it is really hard in the meantime.
    Good luck and post away!

I agree. Also, if their stools tend to roll off the diaper then they are hard enough to be considered as constipated. When our twins experienced this our pedi switched our formula from Enfamil to Similac. HTH!

Our DS & DD are both formula fed and in the beginning first two months or three our DS had been a 24-36 hour pooper. He would not go for at least a day and a half just as I began to worry he would go. Our DD always went every day but he did not and they were fed the same formula. As long as they are not acting as if they are straining or in pain I would try not to worry about it because I am sure they will go. Usually they make up for the missed amount of time with a great big helping of pooooo.
