My DH is not feeling well; flu-like things going on. No chills or body-aches or temp yet. Just other things I'll spare you with. It's 1:00a.m. in the morning and I had to google what happens with a newborn and the flu. She's 11 days old and I'm freaking out. What happens if the flu runs rapid in my house? What about her???? Has anyone ever dealt with a house full of the flu or stomach bug and had a newborn to deal with? UGH!

If you are breastfeeding she'll get some added protection from you. Otherwise. I'd keep her in a room away from all the sickies of the house until it passes. Sanitize everything often (handles, light switches etc). And make sure to take care of YOU to try and stave off you getting it. Congratulations on your daughter!

Thanks Cheli, unfortunately I've woken up with it and no, I'm not breastfeeding. I did for a few days but have since made the switch. I called the nurses station and she said that the baby shouldn't get it due to all the immunities she built up before birth. If she does get it it would be the same thing we have and to just take her in right away.

Please pray that her and the boys get missed this go round. I just would feel awful if she got it. How in the world do you comfort a sick newborn?

    Congrats!!
Ask your husband check in a hotel just kdding!!
Keep her in a isolated room, wipe everything down with lysol wipes, run a air purifier, hand santizine. If the room has a window, open it for 5 mins once/day. And you should get a flu shot, limit ppl contact her. If you contac with sick ppl, before get in her room, wash your hands face and change a shirt (keep one shirt in her room so you can switch).Hope you little love one won't get it!!!

Did you guys get your flu shots? If you got one during pg and your baby is full term, then she should have some protection from the antibodies still in her system. I think those antibodies stick around for 6-8 weeks or so. She may still get the flu, but a less severe case.

Wear a face mask around her (you can get these at any pharmacy)
    Wash hands a lot
Keep pump bottles of Purell around
Spray doorknobs etc with a bleach solution
Don't kiss her on the face--I am sick, so I am kissing the kids on the back of their heads, while snuggling them with their backs toward me. That way, I can keep my face away from theirs.

We are dealing with a house full of pinkeye and it SUCKS! But it is only temporary so know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

My kids are preemies, and we were prepared to do exactly that if DH got sick when they were very little. :)

Well I called the nurses station back because I didn't like what the first lady had to say and the second nurse told me she could get it and that she'd have the same symptoms as us. Not much we can do now as she's already been exposed. Stock up on pedialyte and gatorade and limit contact with her. Facemasks are on and we're just praying she doesn't get it. Thanks for all the tips!
