Hi everyone. I have been reading this site for a few weeks and finally have decided to post because everyone seems very supportive and encouraging. This is my first pregnancy and we conceived through IVF. I will be 13 weeks tomorrow. As with many of you ladies, achieving pregnancy was a roller coaster ride of ups and downs but we have been truly blessed because we have twins on the way that were conceived on our first round of IVF. I found out I was pregnant a few days sooner than expected because I was experiencing severe nausea and bloating. A trip to the ER confirmed I was actually pregnant and that I was experiencing ovarian hyperstimulation which can occur from IVF. Once I was able to overcome the symptoms of the hyperstimulation it has been a much better experience. So far I have been blessed to have mild morning sickness on occassion. My main concern is spotting, which leads me to the question part of my post. I was wondering if someone could possibly shed some light on this subject. I spotted red last Monday and my OB ordered an ultrasound the same day to check things out and according to the ultrasound both babies, sacs and placentas looked good and were right where they were suppose to be at this point in the pregnancy. My OB could not really explain where and why I was spotting. He put me on rest for the remainder of the week. I haven't had any red spotting since but I still have occasional brown or brownish-red spotting which is mostly on the tissue. Has anyone else experienced this and been able to determine what is the cause? If so, is there a rhymn or reason for it and how long it will last?

    Thanks for any input.

I had some spotting early on around 7 weeks or so, and it was off and on for 2 weeks or so. It then returned for just a day at 16 weeks. There never was really a cause found for it. I do know many twin mommies for one reason or another have spotting early in their pregnancies, and a lot of times there is no cause. Sometimes it is something as simple as an irritated cervix, from things like having sex, or just pregnancy hormones!

Welcome to TS and congratulations :)

I had some spotting at the begging when I normally would have been on my period which I read was normal in the first few months of pregnancy.

I had spotting from 6.5 weeks through 11 weeks, with a very scary bleed at 10.5 weeks. My OB never could figure out why but the perinatologist we saw said it most likely was one of the placentas separating a bit as it implanted. Fortunately, it never affected the babies (am 21 weeks now). Good luck!

Hello and welcome! I became pregnant through IUI and have had issues with ovarian hyperstimulation. At just about 19 weeks they are finally shrinking but it was horrible!!! I had spotting on and off from about 8-12 weeks for no reason and then it just stopped. It started again around 15 weeks ( but at 15 weeks it was red compared with the earlier brownish spotting) and they were able to see that Baby A's placenta was crossing my cervix. The doctor is just watching it closely at this point. Just relax, stress makes it worse!!!

i have not been told why i spotted but for some reason i did. i spotteed at 6wks about, 11wks about, and then again at 22wks. no reason i was just told to rest. and now i am on modified bedrest which has nothin to do with spotting. from what i have seen in previou posts many ppl spotted. i do know that brownish is old blood and my pregnancy was natural but im assuming after u actually get pregnant whether thru iui, ivf or naturally its all the same once the babies are inside? not sure though. i would just keep ur dr posted and watch it. i was told that if it wasnt enough to fill a pad in one hr then i shouldnt worry about it.

Thanks for all the responses. It helps to know that you are not alone. Thanks for the info about spotting because you are dehydrated. I never really put much thought into that but that could possibly be part of it because I know I'm not drinking enough liquids. I'm trying really hard but I can't seem to get enough liquids in.

I had a huge bleed and that is how I found out I was having twins at 6 weeks. We too did IVF and there is some suggestion that due to high hormone levels from IVF some seem to spot. I had a subchorionic hematoma behind one of the placentas that gradually went away. I bled again at about 10 weeks and then never again!!
