HI all, My name is Melanie and I 31, dh is 36. We have been married almost 12years and have 7 beautiful children. Our oldest is our son he is 11, followed by 3 girls aged 10,8,7 then 3 more boys aged 6, almost 3 and 9mths. I have had 4 mc, including 2 in the second trimester. I am just over 10weeks pg with twins. We had a scan at 6w 6d and found 2 babies and 2 heartbeats! we are completely thrilled! there are no twins in our familes at all, and we werent ttc for once lol! so it was a very exciting suprise! my dh is looking after me really well, cooking when he gets home from work as I felt rotten! really sick etc.

However I am very very frightend. Our original scan shoed that they appear to be mono amniotic. I am so scared by this after the research I did on the net. My midwife assured me that early scans do sometimes misdiagnose as the membrane is so small. We know they are identical with one placenta and one gest sac, but I am hoping very much to find them in seperate membranes when we go back in 2 weeks for another scan.
I am on heparin/asprin as I was for my last 2 pregs due to my history of mc. I am nervous, I have a doppler at home but cant figure how I can know I am hearing 2 and not 1!
Anyway, I am trying to stay positive!!! we want these little ones so much!!!
Will try to post a pic of my early scan, its a bit creased lol but you get the idea!

Would love to chat to others having twins

    Thanks

    Melanie

:sign0016: Welcome and congrats to you and your family.. I am having the same problem they have yet to find a membrane for me also. I am 17 weeks but I do go back on the 5th to see if they can find one and see what I am having.. I can tell you I have done so much research on this amd read so much about it.. From what I have read they can still find one later on in the preg...

Thanks girls, to be honest I am at a point where I have had to stop reading about mono amniotic, because its stressing me sooo much! I too have read stories of women who dont find the membrane till much later. I just hope I see it soon!
Good luck at your next scan

They did not find my membrane for a while… BUT my Dr wasn’t concerned as he said it is very rare… I do know there is one (or maybe 2) moms on TS that are currently carrying twins with no membrane separating them, so it’s do able… just scary.

The thing I have practiced this pregnancy, is only looking up what I need too… you can make yourself worry without need (and that’s not good for the babies)… I don’t suggest burying your head in the sand, but maybe it’s time to step away from the Google search

Hi Melanie.. Welcome to the board.. I am also pregnant with #8 and #9. Our kids are very very close in age.. We found out at 11 weeks that we were expecting twins. Mine are monochorionic/diamniotic. We found the membrane at the first appointment..but it wasn't easy to find.. and I was further along. At 6 weeks I would imagine that it would be very hard to find the membrane.. I hope that they are able to find it at your next scan.

Congratluations on your twins and welcome to twinstuff! There are so many helpful and supportive people on this site. Mo-mo twins are very rare (only 5% of id's are mo-mo) and the separating membrane is very difficult to find. They thought my boys were also mono amniotic, but after having an u/s at a peri's office, they were able to find the membrane. They were only ever able to see this membrane at the peri's with their high resolution u/s machine. And sometimes with those kinds of machines, they don't find it until week 16 or later. Good luck- you've definitely got the odds in your favor!!

Oh and I meant to say what a beautiful family you have!!!!

    Hi Melanie,
Congratulations!!!! I am currently pregnant with monoamniotic twin girls and inpatient. My first bit of advice would be to stop reading up on it on the internet. I did the same thing at first and it is too overwhelming and negative. They still may find a membrane, sometimes it's hard to see early on. I knew for sure by 14 weeks because they could already see that the cords were tangled, but they still checked for me until I was 18 weeks. Just know that if you are eventually diagnosed as monoamniotic there are a few of us here that you can turn to for advice. Teine and I are going through the same thing at the same time with this pregnancy and have gotten great advice from other momo moms on this site. Hope you feel better and keep us updated.

Just wanted to say Welcome to TS. You have a beautiful family and am very jealous of your gorgeous family picture! I only have 3 kids and I can't manage to get them together and all looking nice like yours! :)

    Good luck with the babies!
I hope you find your membrane.

Congrats! I had mo/di twins, and we didn't find the membrane until 16 weeks! Then we had TTTS to deal with until delivery! The membrane is probably there, I think it is better to see at around 12-16 weeks!

:D :sign0016: It's good to see another mother on here with just as many children as me and my DH. I have a 11 year old stepson, 7 years old daughter, 6 year old son, and we have a 3 year old daughter, and twin boys on the way, oh yeah can't forget the two dogs. 1 pomerianan cinnamon, 1 pitbull 50(because he is all white with 50 or more black spots on him, we stopped counting at 50). So as you can see we are a house full busting at the seems, I just want to say that my prayers are with you and your family that you have a healthy pregnancy, and extra healthy babies.

Welcome to TS! I just wanted to share that they couldn't find our membrane at 19 weeks. At almost every ultrasound after it took about 10mins to find it. Some are thin and difficult to find. HTH!
