I haven't really made a New Year's Resolution for myself, but I want to make one for me and the boys. I'm ashamed to admit that I don't wash their hands before meals. It's partly that I forget to do it, but partly because I don't know how to go about it. I need advice!

For those of you who was their kids' hands before meals, do you just use a wipe? A wet washcloth? Soap and water at the sink? I know the sink would be best, but my guys aren't tall or steady enough to stand on a stool and have me assist them washing their hands. They love to play in the water from the faucet when it's on, but it's almost impossible to hold a boy in my arms while washing his hands.

I'd love some ideas on how to go about this, especially since they're getting really interested in petting the dog and swatting at bugs. :bad:

    TIA!

For right now, I either use a wipe or a wet paper towel.

When (and that's a big WHEN)I remember to wash their hands before meals, I hold them with their bellies kind of leaning over the counter/sink area and their bottoms sitting on my thigh (does that make sense?) and then I wash my hands with them, 1 little guy at a time.

    Good luck! :)

I'm one of the biggest germaphobes out there, and I only recently started washing their hands before meals. And sometimes I still don't. But mine really like routine, so now that I've started it, I'm afraid to stop because then they may fight me when I want to start it up again. Right now it's going well, it's not as big of a pain as I thought it would be, and they don't fight me on it. I have a ladder step stool I keep in the kitchen pantry, and drag it out to the kitchen sink before meals (similar to the one in the link below). It has two steps on it. They climb up on the top step, and I stand behind them. I do one hand at a time, and am pretty much holding them the whole time, at least one arm or the other. Mine like to climb up on it themselves and are pretty steady on it. But mine are a little older than yours.

I use the same thing to brush their teeth, once after breakfast (so I leave the stool out while they're eating, so I don't forget), and once before bed.
