Hello! I just recently found this site and really wish I had found it sooner! I am currently 32w with boy/girl twins...this is my first pregnancy and I have SO many questions!

My first main question is...I have been battling contractions from very early on and was put off work on modified bedrest since 18 weeks...was told that I had an irritable uterus. I've managed to make it this far with the help of Terbutaline for a while and then was switched to Procardia about two weeks ago. All was going well until last week when I started having lots of contractions along with pain/pressure in my lower abdomen and back. I am getting NST two times a week and mentioned to the nurse how I was feeling. I had also been having snotty-type discharge for a few days. Well, my dr checked my cervix and said that I was a fingertip-1cm dilated. This was last Tuesday at 31w2d. I got checked again on Friday and dr said I was about the same. But, they did a FFN test which came back positive  I had a few ffn tests in the past that all came back negative. I guess my question is mainly am I desitened to deliver early? Or can I make it to at least 34 weeks with a positive ffn and being 1cm dilated? I asked about the steroid shots and my dr said basically that at this point I don't need them. She would only give them to me if I started to contract more and have more dilation.

Also, if my little ones decided soon that they were done and wanted out and we weren't able to get the steroid shots, what is the outcome of the babies? Would they be ok, but just need some NICU time?

Sorry this is so long, I am just so worried about having them too early!

Thanks for any advice anyone can give!

Hi Patty (I assume), welcome to Twinstuff! Congrats on your twins!

I don't know much about FFN tests, but if it is positive I would think you would deliver soon, I could be wrong though. Although we've had a few ladies have negative ones and still deliver shortly after. I guess you just never know.

As far as your babies being born early, it all just depends on the babies themselves. My two were born much earlier, but I got the steroid shots and they had no issues at all, just small. The statistics are pretty good for babies born 32 weeks. It all just depends how mature the lungs are really. But be assured that the NICU can do wonderful things with preemies.

I am glad you found us. Congrats again.

With the FFN test... If its neg it means that you most likely will not deliver within the next 2 weeks. With a positive.. It means that you may deliver within the next two weeks. It doesnt mean that you will deliver early... But it kinda sounds like you are going to since you have been on terb and other meds to stop contractions since the begining...
32+ weeks is very good and your babies have a great chance of doing wonderful after a little bit of time in NICU.

    Congrats and welcome to TS!

I would push for the steroid shots. So many women on here have felt the shots made a big difference in the outcome. I know my daughter did with her twins. Hang in there and good luck.

Hi Patty! Welcome to TS. I don't know much about the fFFn test, but I do recommend the steroid shots. I can credit my girls' incredibly good lungs from the shots, as they were born early without much advance notice.
I hope you post more questions, and your birth story when the time comes!
