Hi! I'm new here I found this group online. I just found out on Thursday I am having twins! It is a total surprise. I got my positive just before 4th of July. All has seemed normal other than my morning sickness (all day nausea and indigestion) starting really early. I had a bleed last Sunday that promted my OB to run bloodwork on Monday. I was 6 wks. Well, the number came back 93,000! I didn't think anything of it since my ds my numbers were super high too. They did wait to schedule my u/s until 6 wks 3 days though to have a better chance of seeing a heart beat. Well, low and behold they did the u/s and there are two! Two hb too Baby A with a hb of 108 and baby B 118. They both measure exactly 6 wks 3 days. They have seperate sacks and seperate yolk sacs. I really don't know what that means at this point though. Well, as I go in to talk to the Nurse Practitioner she did dampen my excitement. She just kept stressing how "early" everything is and how "you know really early about there being 2" etc. I knew she was concerned about something happening. I know from 2 previous m/c and 1 problem pregnancy that in the 1st trimester the risks are high. But, after getting a visual on a hb it usually decreases.

Anyway so first thing I do is I have to research. I learn about vanishing twins. I just can't get this out of my head, it will not go away. Now I know what the NP was trying to prepare me for. I spot on and off (brown) and it just drives me insane thinking that now I know there are two and when we go back next week there will only be one. The brown spotting could probably be from my prometrium. I know it is out of my hands. But, I just wonder how common this really is. The statistics are scary but like other m/c statistics they lump everything into one. By far the majority of m/c happen before a visual on a hb. Is it the same with vanishing twins? Do the rates go down after getting a hb visual like in other m/c statistics? I just wonder constantly.

Thanks and hope I get to hang around here. I wasn't hoping for twins originally but now that I know there are two I of course wouldn't want anything to happen to either. :winking0009:

    Hi Carrie ~

Congrats on your twins and welcome! I had off and on spotting during my first trimester and all was ok. I even had a horrible bleed around my 13th week (it looked like I lost a baby in the toilet, sorry TMI) and as it turned out, everything was ok. Try not to worry, as that stress is not good for you or the babies! It's a great sign that you saw and the sacks and the HB's. Keep a positive attitude, all will be fine!

Take care! This is an awesome site for lots of support and info.

Congrats and welcome! I did IVF and found out at 6 weeks that we are having twins. They were sure to tell me that it was still early. I had a previous miscarriage so they were kind of careful about getting my hopes up. They told me that if I had both of them at 10 weeks then I had two. I still felt very positive the whole time because I felt that was better for them. I did feel a huge sigh of relief once I got past 10 weeks and even more once I got to the 2nd trimester. Try not to do to much internet research. Read the positive stories on here instead. :) Congrats again!!!!

I too had the spotting during my first trimester with a lot of cramping. I thought I was miscarrying and then they finally did the ultrasound at 11 weeks and I found out I was having twins.

With the separate sacs and yolks it sounds like they are di/di (fraternal) however there is a chance that the egg split early on and moved away from each other so they might be identical. With me they look like they are mo/di (different sacs but share a placenta) however the doctor said the only way to tell is to examine the placenta afterward to make sure they are two that are fused.

Congrats and try not to worry right now, you'll do plenty of that later on!

Thanks everyone. I'll try to just forget that stuff, it is hard though. We have our next u/s Thursday of next week. I'll feel better after that cause I'll be near 9wks. I'm glad to hear that around 10 wks your chances get much better. Thanks and I'll be around. Just got my tickers and siggy going.

Congrats and :sign0016: . I can totally relate to you because I found out at 10 weeks that I was carrying twins and my Ob also told me that there is a higher rate of loss in multiple pregnancy. I went home and researched and didn't relax for about the next month or so. Once I felt like I was out of the woods for m/c I was told I had mono/di twins and then went crazy researching and worrying about TTTS. I was a wreck. I am now 28 weeks and doing just fine. I sstopped researching on my own keeping my info to a couple of twin pregnancy books, Dr. DeLia, my OB, and this site of course and I am much happier because of it. I know it is stressful and nervewracking but like my OB told me that is also not good for my health nor the babies. Try to relax and just focus on taking good care of yourself for now. If you ever have any questions or doubts, this site is a great source of support and info. Try to stay away from the internet-it is scary and often the info you can find on there isn't always true :hug99:

Spotting can also be from the Cervix surface. I had problems with this (still) since the day after I found out I was pregnant- even with no intercourse, etc.
