I just found out I'm having twins and I feel like so much is different than with my son. I'm always eating, nauseas, and exhausted, and I have a gazilian questions one being....

How much water should I be drinking for all of us?
I hate water but the doc said to stay away from juice and stuff because I am watching the weight gain as I gained 80 pounds with one child with my first pregnancy

I gained 50 with my first and my doctor said he isn't worried about my weight gain. If you don't like plain water add some lemon or a sugar free, gosh what are they called- the flavored packets things.

I think you should be drinking 64 onces, or a glass an hour should be good enough

Hi there & :welcome: to Twinstuff!!
Congratulations on your pregnancy! How far along are you?

I drank a TON of Crystal Light when I was pregnant because it was hard for me to drink so much plain water.
I didn't count out how much water I was drinking, but just made sure that at all times I had some with me ;)

Staying hydrated will help in so many ways :good:

I was told to drink at least 8 - 16 oz glasses of water per day. I'm sure I don't even come close. I second the Crystal Light suggestion! It makes it so much better. I also put bottles of water in the freezer for about an hour, so it's icy cold. That helps too.

Welcome to Twinstuff! How far along are you?

:welcome: and congrats on your pregnancy! :yahoo:

I drank what my body "asked" for and I think I got through several litres a day at one point as I was soooo thirsty! I never got any advice on food habits, etc, so I did my own research (I live in Spain). When I was fed up of just water, I´d mix fruit juice with water to give it some flavour. With the m/s, I drank Aquarius which is like Gatorade.

Eat crackers, toast, etc when you have m/s or feel nauseous. Ginger is also supposed to help. My GP also told me not to drink too much when I ate as it made me more sick! I also used to carry glucose tablets around with me for those sugar drop moments! It stopped me eating too much chocolate!

I gained 55lbs with my twins and have lost almost all of it.

GL for your pregnancy and HH9M! :)

Yes!! I agree 100%! Even if you have to drink it with lemon or the crystal light, just drink it! I thought it wouldn't matter, but it does! I got alot less braxton hicks because of drinking more water. :good:

Good luck with everything. I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy!

Congrats on the twins and welcome to TS!!

For fluid, icy cold ones goes down easier, and have small sips throughout the day. Don't wait till you're thirsty before gulping big cups. Tends to come back up too. Also, I thought its weird ur doc is asking u to keep track of ur weight gain so early on in ur pregnancy, even if u did gain some from the last preg...Dunno what's his reason for that though. Good luck!!

Congrats and welcome to the forum! :)
I've been pretty thirsty throughout pregnancy and I love water (cold--I keep a Brita pitcher in the fridge) so I drink at least a gallon a day. Ditto the others in whatever you can do to make it tasty. :) Putting lemons or even orange slices in the water can help, too.

I'd also really recommend the book When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads by Dr. Barbara Luke. She gives very helpful and well-researched recommendations for nutrition, hydration and weight gain with multiples, along with every other aspect of a multiples pregnancy.

A glass of water every hour is what I was told. Gatorade or Powerade are also good - they have salt which is helpful for twin mamas.

You want to gain 24 pounds by 24 weeks. This is more than the ideal weight for a singleton, but I hear that by the time you reach third tri there is no more room for food so it gets harder to eat!!

Good luck! Listen to your body; it will tell you when it needs water.

Hi, I am new here also! I am 12 weeks and I too feel like I have a thousand questions. This site has been very helpful. I find it easier to drinl water if it is over ice and I just drink a cup every few hours. Hope this helps!

I will second this. I have this book and it was very useful during my pregnancy!

I didn't realize how important water was until i went into preterm labor. The only thing that stopped the contractions was if I stayed super hydrated. As soon as I let up on the water consumption I would get contractions. My neighbor's gf who had twins told me this early on and I didn't follow her advice and wished I had. Maybe I could have avoided bedrest if I stayed more hydrated. I hate water, too. I would add lemon, lime, oranges, raspberries. I would make pitchers at a time and add fruit slices to give it flavor without adding sugary mixes and unnecessary calories.

Congratulations! I drank about 2 liters of water a day and I got the bubbly water (poland spring makes it in different flavors...deer park too). I stayed away from Crystal Light b/c I ended up with Gestational Diabetes and had to watch my sugars. I do love that stuff though! I gained about 60 pounds in all...just 11 more to go! Good luck with everything...you'll love having twins!
