Hi - my girls just turned one yesterday - yay!!! I have a couple of questions for you veteran Moms
When did you start brushing their teeth? I just bought them toothbrushes and they have 7-8 teeth each

Did your babes have reactions to their one year vaccinations? My girls are sick right now (RSV) and I HATE to take them in right when they are feeling better to feel like crap all over again.

Shoes - I have them in the leather like ones from target soft flexible soles etc. - what are they called - sobes or something like that. When did you start putting your "walkers" in harder soled shoes? My girls have been walking (no crawling any more) for little over a month now

Thanks in advance for any info!!

:birthday:Happy Birthday Girls!!! :birthday: Welcome to 1-4!!!! (Don't forget to update that ticker :) )

If they are sick now, you won't be able to get their shots. I don't remember a big reaction to the 1 yr. shots, but I don't really think it'll hurt anything to wait till their next appt. or make a subsequent appt. in a month or so! :hug99: Sorry they are sick!! That's such a drag!

    :birthday: girls!! :sign0016: to 1-4!!

We started brushing their teeth when they got tooth #2. For Lauren we started last April (I think) and Emma started last August.

My girls didn't have reactions to any of their vaccines, aside from being a little sleepy the day they got them.

We bought sneakers from Stride Rite just before they started walking. I only put them on if we were going somewhere. At home they are in socks and/or slippers.

When did you start brushing their teeth?
I started at about 6 months when they had about 6/7 teeth with the finger thingy, then at about 9 months with a regular tooth brush by then they had about 14 teeth or so if I remember correctly. I know at their first dentist appt. (per pedi because their two front were missing enamel) at 10 months they already had 16 teeth, so we had to start early...now I am just trying to get in the habit of twice a day.

No, they never had a reaction besides a slight fever at 4 months from vaccinations and I have no experience with RSV, sorry.

I did have regualr sneakers for them since about 6 months but they were little adidas and I couldn't resist, but really when they start walking and not crawling I would go to the sneaker/walker shoe for support.

LOL Diane! You're the ticker police!

I would also put off the shots till they are completely better. You could even wait til the 15 mos appt. I gave Tylenol or Motrin for the rest of the day and at bedtime the day of the shots. Usually the next day they are fine...maybe a little tired. Some of the things they get at one year can cause a reaction 10 to 15 days later but we never had that happen. We started brushing their teeth consistently around one year. Just made it part of getting ready for bed. The only time my kiddos wore "real" shoes was if we were playing outside. Otherwise it was socks, barefoot or robeez.

I'd wait on the shots till they are feeling better. your Dr would probably advise this anyway. there's no harm in postponing. We had to do this for one series of shots (forget which age).

brushing teeth: asap. we started with soft silicone type toothbrush from one step ahead. now we use regular toothbrushes. with toddler toothpaste. they brush their teeth every night before bed. the best way to teach them is by letting them see you brush your teeth. most kids want to copy mom & dad anyway.

i wasn't a fan of the stride rites, $ and velcro kept taking them off. My kids still were robeez sometimes. But I love pedoodle.com shoes. Not crazy expensive and a good transition type shoe. Mostly we use the "big girl" shoes for outdoor walking, parks, etc.

We started brushing their teeth after about the second or third tooth. My boys did not have a reaction to the shots. As far as the shoes, mine wore Robeez, the Target version of Robeez and Preschoolians. They still wear those soft soled shoes (Robeez) and they are 21 months old! I do put harder soled shoes on them when we go out in public.

    Hi! Welcome to 1-4!!

Our ped told us at their one year appt. that we could start brushing their teeth. They only had their 2 bottom teeth at the time so I would say you could probably start now.

My girls had very little reaction to the shots. They basically just got a little cranky but Tylenol was all we needed to help them through it.

My my one dd took her first step, I called the peds office to ask what we do for shoes. He said that they no longer recommend those hard soled shoes. He said, whenever possible, let them be barefoot or the Robeez type shoe is fine or any good supportive sneaker would be fine. Their first pair of good shoes were Nikes. I always thought that I would never buy expensive or brand name shoes. I thought I would buy all their shoes at Payless. However, a very nice and very knowledgeable man at the shoe store told me that it is very important to take care of their feet. They are on them all the time and their feet and bones are still developing so it's important that they wear a shoe that will not damage or hurt their feet. He said, if you have to, go cheap on the clothes but don't go cheap on their shoes. Well, I don't know if it was his gimmic to get me to spend money but he seemed like a very nice old man whose intention was truly to make sure I did right by my girls. He's been in the business for over 20 years so...I bought them Nikes. HTH

We started brushing their teeth at about 6 months old. That's when we established a set bedtime and toothbrushing became part of the bedtime routine.

Did your babes have reactions to their one year vaccinations? My girls are sick right now (RSV) and I HATE to take them in right when they are feeling better to feel like crap all over again.
My girls never had bad reactions to any of their shots. Dax started having high fevers following shots starting at 2 months old. We are only getting one shot at a time for him from now on in the hope that the reactions will lessen. After what I read about the high amounts of aluminum in shots (in an article written by Dr. Sears), I'll only get one shot at a time for all my kids from now on.

My girls didn't use the traditional hard soled shoes until 4 years old. After they started cruising outside, I got them flexible soled shoes with protection from Preschoolians. There are actually many companies that make shoes for toddlers that both protect them from the elements and are very flexible. I wanted their feet to be able to feel the ground and develop as properly as possible.
