Hello all - I'm happy to move over here to the First Year born. My ID twin girls were born May 21st. I had a question about early weaning and limiting breast pain/engorgement. I was trying to do a mix of breastfeeding/bottle feeding my twins but on the fifth day one started refusing the breast. I decided to wean the other twin b/c I didn't want to breastfeed just one and I wanted to keep them on the same feeding routine. I've been slowly dropping the number of feeds for the second twin and now am just doing once a day. I don't feel too full but my breasts are leaking occasionally.

Has anyone ever done this early on:? How long did it take for your supply to dry up? Did you get engorged? Any and all advice welcomed.

I had your same issue after about 2 months, my son refused to take my breast, while my daughter could have been permanently attached to it. I decided to pump for him and nurse her. It still kept them on the same schedule and they still both got the nutrients of BM. It took a lot of discipline on my part, pumping as frequent as every 2-3 hours ( a total of about 10 times a day), to keep up my supply for both, but I really wanted them to BOTH get the nutrients. At times my daughter got botteld BM so that my husband could do the feeding, and she never had problems transitioning back and forth form bottle to breast. Both mine got formula too, but BM was their main source the first few months. Consider pumping, BM is a priceless, life-long gift to your children, and go to the Breastfeeding forum, lots of supporting mothers there. Good luck :)

Supplies dry up differently for everyone. I stop for two nights and my supply is gone. I have spoken to others who 2 months later can express milk. It Really depends.

Hi Krista! Congrats on your babies! Welcome to the FY forum!

I stopped after about a week, and the first couple of days were quite painful, but then it was fine. It took quite awhile to completely dry up though.

I don't have any advise from experience. I did however sit in on a consult with Lactation person and a friend who wanted to dry up milk ASAP. She said to take fresh ,whole cabbage leaves and put them in her bra. It worked rather quickly. Sdid this 2-3 times a day for 1 week and was done. She was told not to use the red cabbage and avoid red stains. HTH

:sign0016: Krista! Glad you decided to introduce yourself and join us in FY and on TS! Congrats on your twins! I was a miserable failure at bfing so I honestly can't give any advice here. But there are many great people here and you can always post in the Breast Feeding Forum too. :wavey:

Thanks for the advice - I'll have to try the cabbage leaves.

THanks for the suggestions to continue to try breastfeeding, but the pumping isn't really an option for us - I have two older boys to take care of and just can't be feeding all day. My boys were both bf and I do feel it's important, but sleep is important too :)

    Welcome to FY!

Mint tea might help you dry up more quickly as will decongestants. You might want to check out the BFing forum though. They helped me through some tough times I had.

    :hug99: I'm glad you're here with us!
