Hi, everyone! My DH & I just found out yesterday afternoon that we are expecting twins. I am 7 weeks, so still pretty early. I am still in shock over this news, but I am starting to get pretty excited. I am a bit scared too, as the ultrasound tech was unable to find a membrane. I am new to all of this twin terminology, but right now it looks like a monochorionic monoamniotic set of twins. I am going back in 1 week for another ultrasound to look for the membrane.

I made the mistake of coming home and researching this online. Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled with what I read. Then in my google search I came across this site and saw the wonderful advice you gave another mom in a similar situation. So I realize that the membrane is difficult to find & also that monoamniotic twins are rare. Anyway, I feel much better already for just having found this site. I just wanted to introduce myself. Good luck to everyone here and if there is anyone who wants to share their membrane stories, I would certainly like to hear them.

    Thanks,
    Heather

Well a huge congrats on the wonderful news. It can be a bit of a shock at first, but even with everything I complain about, I wouldn't trade it for the world. :)
If you have any kind of questions or even need support, let the ladies on here know. They have so much useful info. :)

Mono Twins are rare - I am a mother of two of them!! I delivered healthy monoamniotic girls almost 2 years ago. You are still so very early for them to find a membrane. Even if they don't, it is not the end of the road. You would most likely deliver around 32 weeks and hopefully go inpatient for 24/7 monitoring - that was what happened to me. I delivered at exactly 32 weeks. They spent 20 days in the NICU but are doing wonder now - you would never know they were preemies.

Congrats and try not to worry - feel free to email me for more information.

Welcome to TS!!! Yes, you are still early. Plenty of time to still find a membrane. You need to see a specialist.
They have better ultra sound equipment to find the membrane. They found mine at 8 weeks.
I was told at 7 weeks my twins were MOMO twins through a nurse at the fertility clinic. My fertility Dr. said
if you want peace of mind, go see a specilaist because he wasn't 100% sure. And the specialist did find the
membrane. Boy was so mad at that nurse.

Congrats and good-luck!!! You will all be in my prayers :)

Congrats on your wonderful news!!!!! And welcome to TS!!!!! It is an awesome site for advice and to just chat with other moms who know what daily life is like with multiples!!!!! It is alot of work but oh so much fun. When I was first pregnant it was hard to see the memrane as well and that was at about the 6-7week sono. The next sono did show two membranes and all went well. I still had preemies in the NICU but they are going to be 6 tomorrow and are doing awesome- smaller than most kids their age but who cares!!!! Good luck and let us know how everything is going for you.
    Again- congrats!!!!!! :a_smil09:

Congrats and welcome to the board.. like other members have said.. its very early to rule out a membrane. I found out I was having twins at 11 weeks.. and even then the tech had a really really hard time finding the membrane.. it wasn't until 15 weeks that we got a really good look at the membrane. So try not to get yourself into a panic just yet. Keep us updated on your next u/s

    Congrats on your twins!

They didn't find a membrane with me until 16 weeks! We were worried too, but the odds are in your favor that a membrane is there! Good luck!
