New to first year forum & first question

Discussion in 'The First Year' started by hudsonvallygirl, Oct 18, 2007.

    Hello everyone,

Well, I finally made it to the first year forum. My twin boys are now 6 days old. Everything's going great, except with every diaper change, I'm also having to change their clothes every time because of leaking. I didn't have this problem with my daughter and wonder if anyone else has experienced this with boys, too, and if there's a certain brand of diaper that may work better for boys or if there are any tricks that will help with this problem. I'm up to my ears with laundry.

Congrats on your twins! I'm no expert on this either (my babies are only a few days older than yours), but we've had similar issues with our son leaking through diapers. I've been trying to rememeber to point his penis down when putting on a new diaper so we don't get leaks in the front. Hopefully, some other more experienced moms have some ideas....

definitely point the pecker down. How often are you changing them? We were on an every-3 hour schedule for the first several weeks . . .

We had that same issue with our son. There were times it seemed like he missed the diaper completely and just peed on the clothes! I don't know if we ever figured it out, we tried different diaper brands and pointing the penis down, etc, but I'm thinking it is something that just stopped happening. We didn't have this problem with our older daughters or our twin girl. I hadn't tried it, but maybe one of those plastic pants over the diaper for at night? I hope someone else responds that has some good advice for you!
    Good luck!
    Helen

I had this problem with my first ds. Make sure the penis is straight down, not off to one side or the other. If it's sideways, if they are laying on that side (like when someone is holding them) it will leak out around the tabs. Also, make sure the diaper isn't too high up in the back. That takes away some of the absorbancy in the front where boys really need it.

Couldnt agree more. I have an older DD and we never had this issue. And that is what is was...we didnt have the penis aimed in the right direction. We used Pampers Swaddlers and they seem to work fine once we fine tuned the issue.

I agree, probably an aiming issue! :sign0016: and congratulations on your boys!

Yep, aim that little squirt gun down! Also make sure the diaper is snug around their thighs. If it's gappy there the pee will literally run out of the diaper. Huggies worked best for us.

    Congrats! :sign0016:

We used huggies too. Someone had once told me huggies was better for boys and pampers for girls... not sure why but we use huggies because Costco carries them... hehe.

The other thing to check is if the diaper is the right size. how big are your babies?

If you are already pointing his penis down -- which you MUST do -- then I would try a bigger size (even if the weights on the package are way too high), or a different brand.

We had great luck with Pampers Swaddlers with my older DD, and they fit my little guy well, too. But, his twin sister is built completely differently, and I'm about to try some Huggies and other brands with her -- the Pampers just don't fit well.

We're using newborn size. My one boy is 7lbs, the other 6, so newborn size should be big enough...

The things you learn somedays - I was going to suggest to try another brand, but I have all girls! Good luck!

i never had issues with them being wet when they were smaller, is the diaper too big? I used swaddlers preemie size and then on up the scale... Good luck that is frustrating as it has happened twice lately...
