Over the weekend I started to notice that the knuckles and joints in both of my hands just ache. It hurts to try to make a fist or twist the cap off of a drink. I'm wondering if this is carpal tunnel syndrome? Often, I'll wake up during the night or morning and two or three of my fingers feel like they are asleep. My shoulders ache too so I'm wondering if I have a pinched nerve somewhere.

    Anyone else experienced this?

I have the same problem with my hands. I asked my dr. at my last visit & she said it's probably carpal tunnel which is very common. My hands hurt so much they wake me up at night. She said to wear wrist braces.

around 23wks into my pregnancy i had the same problem. My peri said it was carpal tunnel, and like PP said, that it's common in pregnancy. The swelling can put pressure on those nerves and cause problems, but it should go away after pregnancy. The only thing that helped me was to sleep with my hands elevated at night. It was tough to figure out how to do it!!! But it helped me tremendously! I hope you find some relief :)

At around 19 weeks I started experiencing these symptoms. I had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome before I got pregnant but never any serious symptoms. Now my right hand's tips of fingers are constantly numb. I wear night braces to help keep both hands from being numb all night and its helping. But my hands ache and I have trouble making a fist as well. All of my doctors say that there is nothing that can be done and it will go away after pregnancy. I have a Gyro Ball that I purchased before the pregnancy. It helps a little but it now hurts alot to use. If you have ever done yoga, the Downward Dog pose is suppose to help. It hurts like **** but it helps.

I have the same thing. I thought I had a pinched nerve maybe caused from sleeping wrong, but it would not go away. So yesterday I looked in my book What to expect when your expecting and its says that it is common in pregnancy from swelling. That it is usually in the right hand from the wrist to the finger tips of the thumb, index, middle and ring fingers. It also says that it can radiate up your arm.

They suggest to lay in the bed and hang your arm down off the side and shake it vigerously. Also they say try not to sleep on your hand.
