Hello my name is monica. i am from Charleston, WV, i am 26, married, and a mom to a 2 year old! I found out in march that i am pregnant with twins (boy/girl). i am 24 weeks and had to go to the ER yesterday because i have been having alot of bh contractions. Well they found out that i am 1 cm dilated and just put me on bed rest for the night. i am worried because i dont see my ob until thursday aug 14. what if i progress without knowing it? i took the rest of the week off so that i could rest and try to prevent that from happening.

i have been having my cervical length checked since i was 16 weeks. and it is has been around 4.5 cm and it was last week. should i be worried about me being dilated 1cm?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Monica, welcome to Twinstuff! :sign0016: Congrats on your twins.

Sorry you ended up in the ER yesterday. :hug99: I think there are many people on here who were dilated early on and carried their twins pretty far. But I would take it easy. Your cervix is still a good length, but you definitely can progress without any indication (I did). I would really try and take it easy before your next OB appt. to be safe, JMO.

Hi Monica & :sign0016: to Twinstuff!!!!
Congrats on your b/g twins - So exciting!
Sorry you ended up in the ER yesterday with contractions :(
Get lots of rest & stay super hydrated ~ If you feel anything abnormal between now & your appt. on the 14th give you Dr. a call, that is what they are there for :)
Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Hi Monica!! Congratulations on your Twin pregnancy and Welcome to TS!! Sorry to hear about your contractions and dilating. I would definitely follow the best rest orders as strict as possible, the best thing you can do is keep the pressure off your cervix. I agree that you should also be drinking a ton of water! GL!!

    Hi Monica,

Welcome to TS! I'm in Charleston too. Who is your OB? Did you go to CAMC? I went on bedrest at 26 weeks for a short cervix and went into labor with mine at 27 weeks and was on bedrest for a month at home and then a month at CAMC. Did your OB see you at the hospital? Mine started seeing me weekly once I was on bedrest I think. I would definitely stay off your feet as much as possible. Don't sit b/c that puts as much pressure on your cervix as standing. You actually need to be lying down. Do you have someone to help you with your two year old? I would just try to take it as easy as possible and call your OB if you have any problems or questions.

Maybe we can meet up sometime :)

Hey melissa!!!! i am seeing Dr. David Patton and of course he is on Vacation this week, and i knew something would happen while he was away!! that is why they sent me to the ER.. i will be delivering at CAMC. i have been seeing him weekly since 18 weeks (i had a short cervix with my daughter) so they have been keeping a close eye on my cervix. we set my first goal at 28 weeks, so i am just 3.5 weeks away.. i have been drinking plenty of water, and havent had contractions since, so i am hoping i will not be progressing since i havent had any contractions. but i can tell you, i cant wait to meet my babies but not this soon!!! The doc on call just put me on bed rest for the night, but i have been taking it easy since then. Are you working, i work downtown for an Architecture Firm, kreps and zachwieja architects. did you hear about the big baby sale going on in hurricane at some church tomorrow and saturday, i am going to try to get down there in the morning! hopefully they will have some nice stuff!! keep in touch, nice to know you are in my area!!!

He's my OB too! He and Dr. Heywood took good care of me :) I love them! They will keep a close eye on you I'm sure.

I've heard about that sale before, but haven't been to it. I rarely get very far from Charleston - LOL! I'm not working anymore, but live close to downtown in South Hills. Where do you live?

    Hey Monica,
I dilated to 1-2cm at week 20 and only today(32w) was told that I am now at 2cm. I also have been contracting since week 20. My peri said that this dilation is common for second time moms and with twins even higher chance. However, I was put on strict bed rest from 20w to 28w. And I am now on modified bedrest. I would definitely advice you to take it easy and drink lots and lots water and fluids. My jokingly said that the only time I shouldn't be drinking water is when I am in the toilet. If possible call your doctor, he must have some backup when he is on vacation. Atleast he can put your mind at ease
Good Luck and welcome to TS

Hello and congrats on your twins!! I would call to be on the safe side. Do they have a maternity evaluation room at your hospital that you can go to. That way an OB can see you and give you their opinion in the meantime. If not I would just call your OB's practice and see if one of their associates can see you. I went in yesterday for cramping and was told that I am also .5-1cm dilated. They said that is not uncommon for someone who has had a baby before. They watched me for several hours and rechecked me twice. Since I had no progression they sent me home and told me to take it easy. I don't see my OB until the 13th either so we will see what she says. It also depends who checks you because it is very subjective. I would call today or it will probably be a long weekend of worrying for you (plus it is better than ending up back in the ER). Good luck, let us know what your doc says.
