Hi everyone!! My name is Jocelyn and I just found out I am pregnant with twins! :icon_biggrin:
I'm a little concerned though, and I was hoping maybe some of you could help me. Yesterday I had my u/s and I was supposed to be 5 wks 6 days pg. Baby #1 was showing as 6 wks 1 day with a great heartbeat :icon_biggrin: but baby #2 is smaller, in a smaller sac, but we could see the heartbeat. My doctor says we just need to see if baby #2 catches up.

Was this the situation for any of you when you first found out it was twins? Is it somewhat normal for one to be a little behind the other as far as gestation age?

We're on pins and needles until next week when I have another u/s to see how baby #2 is doing.

We feel so blessed - this is my fourth pregnancy since May of 2006 - we lost all previous babies, so we're really on edge and hope both babies are healthy and make it!

Thanks for any help .. I look forward to chatting with all of you!

    Welcome and Congrats.

I am not much help with your question though both sacs and babies were pretty much the same size from the get-go.

Welcome to TS and Congratulations on the twins. That's great that you were able to see both heartbeats!! I have seen other moms with their twins measuring a little bit different during their pregnancy. Good luck with your next u/s! Keep us updated!

Yes, at the beginning, one of mine was about a week behind. It caught up at about 8 or 9 weeks though!

    Hi there,

First off, congratulations! Secondly, I was in the same position you were in. At my first ultrasound, baby A was measuring 6w4d and baby B was 6w1d. We saw both heartbeats flickering at that time though.

When the next ultrasound came two weeks later, baby A was 8w6d and baby B was 7w6d. I haven't had an ultrasound since week 12, and the babies were still different sizes, although the gap between them wasn't as big.

My babies have been different sizes since the beginning, and the Dr's always want to seem to be negative/pessimistic, which would then worry me. Just try to be optimistic, and know that seeing both heartbeats at such an early stage is an excellent sign. Another thing that helped me was seeing that although my twins are different sized, they both kept growing steady at their own growth curve.

Oh yeah, I'm now 19 weeks pregnant and both of the babies are doing great!

    Hope this helps,
    Shannon

    Congrats & welcome!

We discovered my twins at 6w4d. They both measured 6w1d, so 3 days smaller (which was totally fine), and both had a h/b (very good sign, also in your case) at the time ... after that they always measured 2 weeks ahead! Good luck!

Congratulations! We found out we were having twins at 7 weeks, well sort of. There were two sacs but one heartbeat. We returned at 9 weeks for a second u/s where we saw the second hb. From that very first appt, Baby A measured larger than Baby B. She never did catch up to her brother. And now, almost three years later to the day, he is 10 pounds heavier.

I wish you the best of luck!

Hello and welcome to TS!! I don't really have a good answer for you. Fraternal twins do not always measure the same though. Let us know how the next ultrasound goes and congratulations.

When I first found out at 5 weeks, the second sac was labeled as abnormal due to the difference in size from the first one - it was more than 30% smaller, I believe. I was given a 50/50 that twins would result. At 7 weeks, we saw 2 HB, and they were nearly the same size. Even today at 22 weeks they are within a ounce of each other.

    GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations! I know how you feel. We went in for an ultrasound at 5w4d and saw two sacs - they were measuring 4 weeks. You couldn't see ANYTHING but two black dots. I went back exactly a week later at 6w4d and they were both measuring right on target and we saw both heart fluters. A friend of mine is a radiologist and he said that you always give embroyos the benefit of the doubt and give or take a week. You will be suprised at how fast they grow and develop. Check out my ultrasound pics on my blog: mnmspiveyplustwins.blogspot.com you can see the difference in the two visits. We go for another ultrasound tomorrow and I am anxious to see how big they have gotten.

Hope all goes well - keep us posted.

Congrats  and Welcome. I was a nervous wreck from the time I found out I was expecting twins. Mine always measured a little different. I think it is very positive that you did see both hearts beating.Try not to worry. It will all work out.

Thank you for the link to your blog! I do see the difference in size and I'm so happy to hear they caught up :) My doctor didn't sound too reassuring, just kept saying, well, let's just see if baby B catches up. I go back next Thursday for another u/s and should be 7 wks 4 days then, so I can't wait to see how they've grown :D
Thank you again and congratulation to you!

I originally conceived quads. I had 3 strong looking babies with strong heartbeats and on-schedule growth. The fourth was small and had a weak hb. I did lose two, but my tiny one is now my 3 year old son, Anthony! Remember, they are 1) basing growth targets on averages, some will grow faster, some slower and 2) they are measuring in millimeters, small mistakes can throw dates off significantly. I hope that baby B grows stronger over the week and that your doc can show you two happy beans next week :hug99:

I didn't find out about our twins until almost 20 weeks, so I have no clue about the size/growth differences.

Hello, I am very new to all of this. I just found out that I am having twins also. Oct 10 they did an ultrasound and found two. Although like you they found one measuring about 6 weeks 2 days and the other only 5 weeks 4 days. It was a very noticable size difference. Both had good heart rates of 124 and 121 but I am so nervous. I am trying not to get overly excited about having twins until I am sure, but it is kind of difficult not too. It is somewhat of a comfort to know that I am not alone.

I found out I was having twins at 6w 4d and the first u/s looked very unusual. Both babies had a strong heartbeat, but baby B's sac was very mis-shaped and much smaller. The doc was somewhat concerned, so they scheduled me for another u/s the next week. Needless to say, when we came back, Baby B was catching up beautifully, and the sac was more rounded, so most of the worries went out the window! Now I'm right at 24 wks, and the boys are less than 1 oz difference =) Just try to remember that everything will happen the way it's supposed to be.... so try not to worry yourself to death about things you can't change! Congratulations, and welcome!

I found out at 9 weeks and they were measuring about 4 days different, and they couldnt see any type of dividing membrane. then when i went to the peri at 15 weeks the twins were measuring both 4oz which is right on because a singletonat 15weeks should be about 5oz, so they werent off much. they also found the membrane, so much can change week by week. they were also able to tell me they were boys at 15 weeks too!! CONGRATS to you and im sure ur lil ones will be just fine, give it some weeks to catch up ;-)

We just found out that we are having twins and I am about 11 1/2 weeks along. My first u/s was at 8 weeks. Both babies measured 8 weeks, but one was a little smaller than the other. Both has very strong heartbeats. My doc told me that it is not uncommon for one to be a little smaller at first. She said we should know more at the next visit on the 1st. I will be having another u/s then.

Try not to worry, I am sure all is well with the babies.
