My name is Donna. Hubby and I have 3 kids. I had my tubes tied when I had our youngest 29 months ago. So you can imagine our surprise when I got a + HPT. I went in for an ultrasound to make sure it wasnt an ectopic preg, and found out that I am preg with twins [IMG]

I guess my big hang up is I dont know what to expect. 2 of my 3 kids were born at 36 weeks but didnt have any problems and came home with me. My OB said that she is going to be watching me like a hawk because I have had 3 c-sections. She isnt sure how my uterus is going to hold up to this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

First, welcome and congrats (even though you're shocked!) I can well imagine, especially w/the tied tubes. Wow!

This is a fabulous site - incredible information available, lots of support, great community, possibility for venting.

Not sure what your ob's concern about your uterus is; were there complications that led to the c-section, or was it the way the babies presented, or???

The best recco I have is to get the book by Dr. Barbara Luke about twins, triplets and quads. She does a better job of explaining twin pregnancies - and how they differ from singleton pregnancies than anyone i've seen.

That said - she has some pretty stringent dietary rules - big emphasis on LOTS of protein and lots of early weight gain; many people swear by her, some find it impossible, lots of us are in the middle. BUT - it's pretty sure you will be even more tired w/this pg. than you were with your three previous ones, so I'd see what kind of help you can line up as early as possible.

And, last but NOT least - don't go overboard reading about all the possible complications w/twins. If you know if yours are fraternal or identical, that will help alleviate some issues, but - it's really easy to read stuff online and just FREAK OUT. Try not to, and come back often!

My oldest was an emergency c-section. 2nd, I knew he wasnt going to fit so just opted for a repeat. He was born at 36wks and was 9lbs 4oz. My youngest I opted for the repeat again. The middle one was going through cancer treatment, and i wanted to make sure that i was in the hospital when he had to be.

How could I tell now if they are identical or fraternal??? During my u/s she said that there were 2 sacs and 2 babies. does that mean anything? I have to go back on the 19th for another ultrasound. My dr is just floored that I am preg with twins! She is the one that delivered my youngest and did my tubal.

Wow! I can imagine this was a huge shock for you, given that you had your tubes tied! I don't have any advice, but want to welcome you to this site. It's a great forum of support and information. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Congratulations and welcome to Twinstuff. I hope your child has won the cancer battle, how scary for you!

How far along are you? That is one advantage of having pregnancy be as long as it is, gives enough time for the news to settle in and to attempt to prepare.

Please feel free to post your due date in the appropriate roll call sticky at the top of this forum. We would also love to have you share your upcoming appointment and milestone dates in the links provided so we can encourage and support you during your pregnancy.

I look forward to getting to know you.

Oh my! You're officially one of those statistics about tubals not working! What a wild surprise! But exciting at the same time! You have found a great site to peruse often and ask questions/get great advice. As far as the c section concerns - I am sure you will be monitored very closely. I don't know much about repeat c sections and the outcomes - but I bet you can find a lot of info here. And I, too, recommend Dr. Luke's book for getting good info about the twin pregnancy experience. Because it is definitely different than carrying one! I hope you're feeling good right now and that the utter shock of this all wears off a bit. I was pretty shocked to find I was having twins at 19-20 weeks - but ultimately I can't tell you how blessed I feel, despite some of the risk factors and pains associated with carrying two miracles!

Good luck and keep us posted!

I had two c-sections before having my twins. He said that I could even try a vbac if I wanted. I didn't, but we didn't have any problems with my uterus!
