My daughter is 2.5 weeks. She sleeps approximately 22 hours a day! She eats, sometimes I have to wake her to open up though. She doesn't open her eyes much...should I be worried?? Also, she hasn't had a bowel movement since 2 am yesterday! She is strictly breastfed.

Being breastfed it would be rare for her to be constipated. I wouldn't worry about that. HOw are her wet diapers? Is she getting enough? 8-10/day I believe.
Evan slept a lot when he was that age and in truth, he wasn't eating enough. I had to make sure to wake him up more frequently and make sure he ate. I would suggest every 2.5 hours during the day and every 3 hours at night. Did she have a dr appt at 2 weeks? What did the doctor say?

Ditto Jackie on the wet diapers. Make sure she is having 6-8 very wet diapers every day. BF babies sometimes don't poop for days. I remember when one of mine would go 5-8 days in the beginning sometimes. It's crazy, but normal. As far as sleeping that much. It is normal for a baby to sleep most of the time. Was she early or small? Make sure she is eating at least every 3 hours even if you have to wake her. You can use tactics like getting her undressed or holding a cold wash cloth on her face to keep her awake to eat.

    Congrats!

    Yup!!

My doc says 10 times a day or once every 10 days can be normal, depending on the kid.

My kids slept a lot for the first few weeks too. I set an alarm and woke them every 3 ho urs to eat. That's 3 hours from start of the feeding session to start of the next feeding session, even at night. I did th is until they reached 7 pounds each. By then, they were waking on their own to eat. I often had to struggle to get them to eat instead of sleep. I had to tickle feet, strip clothes and even sometimes put cold wet washclothes on them to stay awake long enought eat. That can be very normal.

I wrote this same post about Steven when he was born. I doubt he was awake for more than 30-40 minutes a day at that age and it worried me terribly. He did wake up to eat, though, and he nursed really well. It was a good 6-8 weeks until he really woke up and started looking around. One thing you might consider is if you are taking any pain pills for a c-section (I was). She'll get that through the breastmilk and it could make her sleepy. I wouldn't worry about the pooping unless she starts to vomit. Breastfed babies tend to store it up for days at a time. Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! It's just weird that she went from pooping 4 or 5 times a day to pooping only once a day! Could this be because I switched back to skim milk? I was reading that I should be eating a certain kind of fat that can be found in cow's milk and dairy products.

Yes, at 2.5 weeks mine slept all the time. They would eat and fall back to sleep on the bottle. It wasnt until they were about a month old that they started to stay awake a bit between feedings. I agree with the pp's about the wet diapers and waking to eat.

One of my boys could not be bothered to open his eyes until around 8 weeks! And the other one went from 1 to 2 poops a day to no poop for a week - and he was fine - doc said if he went longer then be in touch. He went back to pooping more regularly then.

No.. just enjoy not having to change the poopies!! Evan was an 'every diaper' pooper for the first week or so and then went to an every 4-5 day pooper! Very normal for breastfed babies!! :) Evan also slept a lot during his first month! Enjoy!
