My boys have been sick for over a month. Colds... coughing, gagging, runny noses, general whininess. My one boy Max has no appetitite and is a little guy to begin with. I have talked to my pedi about this and she keeps saying as long as they don't have extremely high fevers or are acting lethargic that it just has to run it's course. But woe, will they ever get better??
I've tried the cool-mist humidifier, nose sucker things, long baths, they are just messes!
Any thoughts here? Or any foods that I should be giving them to promote wellness?

Lots of fluids, fruits/veggies and Vit C.

I would attempt a vaporizer... are they really congested in their lungs? If so I think I would be more forceful with the pedi. I hope they get better soon.:hug:

Could they possibly have some allergies? I would just keep them as hydrated as you can! I'm sorry you are going through such a L O N G ROUGH spot!!!

 Yes, it sure gets long when they are sick! I'm sorry you are at that point. I might want them checked just to make sure nothing else has come of it. My kids always seem to get infections of some kind and rarely get fevers. Even pneumonia...my youngest gets it with out any fever. And then stick with the suggestions you've gotten, keep them hydrated, try the vaporizer, all those little things to make them as comfortable as possible. Hang in there!

Elliot was like that for the past couple of years - basically one cold that morphed into another cold all winter long. He also ended up with pneumonia (no fever, just a cough), ear infections, RSV, etc.

Finally the Dr. came up with a possible diagnosis of asthma (apparently they diagnose childhood asthma by process of elimination). He started on medication with a nebulizer, and then switched to an inhaler. He has one medication he uses every day, and a second that we use only when he seems to be getting a cold. It seems to have made the difference - he does still get colds like the rest of us, but they follow their course and go away.

I'm still a little unsure of the asthma diagnosis, as he's never had an asthma attack, but the meds seem to be helping. Our thought is to continue them through this winter and cold season, and then try to wean him off in the spring.

Just something to keep in mind.

    Good luck,

    Rachel
