Have anyone ever been told at an US that their baby had a Neural tube defect?

If so can you please let me know what happened after that.

We are not sure of any more information then this at the moment. More will be known at after another US on Monday.

Can you please let me know what the outcome was?

Our results came back really high at first, and then they were recalculated because they hadn't done the measurements including two babies. In the time between, the doctor told me not to worry, and that there is an extremely high false positive rate for AFP. We had scheduled a level 2 ultrasound to investigate, and were offered an amnio, which we declined. The doctor also said there were many neural defects that were fixable.

Then our results were resubmitted and were ok.

    Keep you in our thoughts.

No AFP test was done this was found on an ultrasound.

This is for my brother and sister in law. We are praying for them!

Since I worked with kids with Spina Bifida, I know a number of people who dealt with neural tube defects. If it is early in the pregnancy, they will probably give it time to see where the "hole" actually is. There is a girl in Marcus' class whose mom had in utero surgery to close the tube defect. It didn't "get rid" of her spina bifida, but probably make it much less severe. This girl, so far, has little to no cognitive issues, and walks/runs with braces and crutches. BTW, this mom had twins 4 years before her daughter was born.

At this point, more info is necessary.

Thank for the prayers and if you could please continue praying. The news was not good today. They have some very hard decisions to make. Please keep praying.
