Im nervous my kids wont be potty trained and Ill have 3 in diapers. This is the only thing where I feel truly lost. I know they are still young, but I dont want to miss the opportunity to do this NOW...they just dont seem interested. Most of my friends that have boys literally did it over night near their third birthday.

Am I just being over anxious?? I worry abut an infant all the while getting 2 to go on the potty...

    Any suggestions??

I think issues like these are very important when it comes to family planning. Transitions can be very challenging!

By not missing the opportunity, do you mean because they are showing readiness signs or do you mean the time period because you are pregnant? I know I sound like a total broken record in this subforum but potty training does not have to be difficult, full of anxiety, stress and accidents. Potty training really can be an overnight, pleasurable experience for everyone if the time is right. Is this always the case? Of course not, nothing is ever a 100% guarantee but does it have to be torture? Not neccesarily.

I think I would much prefer 3 in diapers than trying to potentially rush potty training for the sake of timing that they have no control over.

I had the same fear about my singleton not being potty trained before the twins were born. She started showing signs of readiness when she turned 2 and would probably use the potty 80% of the time. When I went on bedrest and when the twins came home, she went right back to using diapers most of the time. So I had 3 in diapers for about 5 months. When she was finally ready it just clicked (she was closer to 3)! So my 2 cents is don't push b/c it was stressful for me and frankly a waste of time. You could begin to buy potty books and start talkng about it. Good Luck.

Everyone was telling me to get my oldest potty trained before the twins came. It just doesn't work that way. You can't MAKE your children pee. I used to tell parents this at the preschool I worked at before having kids. Having three in diapers isn't bad, you get on a routine. It does cost a lot more though. I have friends in the neighborhood that are trying tp push their boys into potty training and it has been going on for a year now. They are 3.5. I waited until my son was READY and wanted to go and he was potty trained over night (not kidding) he will be 3 next week and has been trained for 2 months. Hope that helps and if you have anymore questions feel free to PM me.

Mandy, I am currently in that position.....it's really not that bad having 3 in diapers (except for the expense). So many people asked me last summer if I planned to have the twins trained by the time the baby came along. If they were ready, sure....but I am not forcing them. I did buy a potty seat last fall and they will sit on it sometimes. Meghan has shown a lot more interest in it than Nolan (he actually told her she was gross when he saw that she had peed in there). She has probably gone on the potty about 8 times. I let her sit there when she says she needs to go, but I am not pushing it and don't intend to. I figure she will be the first one trained and then he will probably follow along at his own pace.

Don't panic about it. Let nature take its course.

My twins were not potty trained when the 3rd came. I planned on waiting till the following summer (when they were 3), but in August when the baby was just 3 months old and the twins just over 2, they decided they wanted to train. It was difficult, but I think it was easier to do then than it would be now. The baby is stationary and you don't need to worry about it running away. I took just a few weeks (we switched over to panties full force when they did their first BM in the potty).

Don't be scared. you are a mom of twins and can do anything

I have 3 in diapers now and it's honestly not that bad! Truly, I'm not sure that I would be able to tackle potty training well at this point anyway. It's hard enough just to manage all 3, let alone take them to the potty! Don't add any undue stress to your life Mandy :) I am going with the theory that they will train when they're ready. It might be 5th grade, but oh well... :FIFblush:

Dianne, Maureen and Melissa pretty much said all the things I was going to. I agree with Dianne wholeheartedly about waiting until THEY are ready. After facing this same situation (3 in diapers), I realized I could go crazy about potty training or I could let it happen when N & G were naturally ready. There was no way I was going to try to train them before O was born, but there were times when I thought I would tackle it around their second birthday so that I could get down to just one in diapers. Then I would read Dianne's (and others) advice about waiting until the child showed readiness and I realized that I couldn't force them to potty train (at least not without a lot of frustration on everyone's part).

3 in diapers really is not bad at all. It sounds a lot worse than it is. N & G get changed far less frequently than Oliver, so it's not changing the number of diapers that you would with three infants (hats off to all those parents of triplets!!).

I have lots of relatives that keep asking when I'm going to potty train and I keep telling them all the same thing... when THEY are ready. I doubt I'll miss the signs :)
