Neosure question

So, my boys are 6 months adjusted and 9 months actual (almost). They have been on neosure since the NICU. Neosure says they recommend takin git until 9 months and then can switch. My GI said, it's really up to us--we could just switch directly to milk at a year. He said it Doesn't hurt to contiue, but if we want to go to Advanced, we can also do that, and he is going by their actual age, so basically that would be now. We havent talked to our pedi yet, but just thought I would ask on here.

Did you move to another type of formuala? IF so, when (actual age?). If not, did you just go from Neosure to milk at 12 months?

Mine were born 3 months early too, and we have had several adventures in formula since they came home from the hospital. They came home on a mixture of half breastmilk and half Enfacare (Enfamil's equivalent to Neosure). I had to stop pumping when they came home due to a yeast infection in my milk ducts so we had to switch to just Enfacare alone. The Enfacare helped them grow like weeds, but it did horrible things to them due to their reflux. After trying a few different kinds of formulas, we finally had decent luck with Enfamil's Gentlease. They have been on that formula for almost 4 1/2 months now and they are doing great. Their growth rate hasn't slipped off at all. Mine were born at 2 lbs., 3 oz. and 2 lbs., 15 oz., and at 8 1/2 months they are now at 18 lbs. and 21 lbs. I would have preferred to stay on the Enfacare, but the problems it caused weren't worth staying on it. And again, we haven't had any slow down in growth or development. Good luck!

 

My girls were 28 weekers and our pedi gave us the all clear to get off of Neosure and onto regular formula when they had caught up in the weight department for their actual age, which was at about 6 months old. Neosure is super expensive, so we were happy when we were able to switch. I would definitely talk to you pedi and see what he/she says about it. Good Luck!

 

My two were born at 35 weeks, and got half EBM and half Neosure for the first six months. But, they caught up -- and then exceeded! -- the average size for their actual ages very quickly, like Kyrstyn mentioned. So, our pedi was fine with our switching to regular formula.

We switched to Nestle Goodstart, and they did fine on it. They continued to get EBM until 10 months as well, and then we transitioned to whole milk by 12 months. No problems at all.

My boys came home on neosure and the dietician from NICU wanted them to be on it for a year but they were not tolerating it well. We switched to a ton of different formulas when they were three months old and they were on enfamil gentalease for a long time but now they are on alimentum which I think is even more expensive then the neosure was If you have a dietician for you babes I would ask them what they think. We automatically got one when we were discharged from NICU so I just keep following up with them.

 

Mine babies were born at 33 wks 4 days. We gave them EBM and Neosure until 8 wks when I dried up due to poor milk supply. At 3 months our pedi had us switch from Neosure to Similac Advance.

 

We were on only breastmilk then before we left the NICU they wanted them on NeoSure twice a day.. we did that for nearly a month but they just couldn't handle it wether it was ready to feed or powder it just wasnt't working.. so we tried Carnation Good Start and it has worked well with them. I have recently transistioned them over to all formula as I have stopped producing milk..just enough for a bottle day so I just weaned them. I have been happy with this brand. Our pedi and the NICU specialist were okay with us switching because our weight was doing well and still is.

 

We were on neosure for 2 or 3 months and Jessy just couldn't handle it. We switched to goodstart mixes heavy(like 1 1/2 instead of 1 measure full)

 

I supplemented breastmilk with Neosure until we moved to whole milk at 12 months. My guys were always small and still haven't caught up in weight, so I figure they needed the extra calories. And we had to use the ready-to-feed for the first 9 months because they couldn't tolerate the powder. Talk about expensive!!

So if you're concerned about getting your boys the extra calories, they tolerate the Neosure, and you can afford the more expensive formula, I'd say keep them on it until you move to whole milk.

After 1 year I started adding Carnation Instant Breakfast mix to 1 sippy of milk per day, and sometimes add half-and-half to get them extra calories. And I give them lots of whole milk yogurt as well. Maybe someday they'll actually be on the chart.... But they're tall and doing great, so I don't worry about it.

My boys were 11 weeks early and are still on neosure 24. They are 10 months actual age. They have some feeding issues though.

 

My boys came home from NICU on BM and Enfacare. Even though they were growing like gangbusters, my Pedi kept them on the high-calorie stuff until 6 months adjusted, then they went on regular formula & BM.

 

At 6 months actual, we switched to regular Kirkland brand formula. But we mixed it to be higher calorie (same as the Neosure). We stopped mixing it to a higher calorie around 9 months. We did go to milk at 12 months actual.
